It happens a fair amount that the #2 player on a dynamite high school is undervalued by the college recruiters. All the eyeballs are on the #1 guy who may have the height and athleticism. That dude gets all the looks and shots and accolades and can wow with the crowd. But that #2 guy, especially if he's a PG, can be really effective at the next level. You must be talking about our future PG Tyler Beard who has been playing in the shadow of Duke commit 5 star DJ Stewart at Whitney Young. The fact that Tyler was still uncommitted so late sure supports your theory.

Very polished player, his jump shot is like that... He has some holes in his game like most kids in HS but you can tell he knows how to play... That's the same thing folks, including myself, said about Myles Powell. Look at him now. At some point you just have to look at what the kid is doing and take it for what it is. He's accepting every challenge and coming out on top. I'll take a kid like that on my team every time. If this kid dedicates himself to getting his fitness right I think he's going to be a monster somewhere. Really hope the staff takes a hard look here. He looks like the kind of kid we need.

Murray looks like a hard nosed player and he can really shoot it. Like a lot of players in high school he probably plays out of position because his team/school has a lack of height. I think I read he is 6'4", which probably translates into and off guard at a major D-1 school, and he probably plays forward in high school. I saw one clip that said he was trying to guard some 6'8"- 6'9" kids in a recent game. Not sure why he is so undervalued by recruiters at this point, because he has clearly been very productive on a team that plays high level competition.
I would assume it is probably hard for some recruiters to get a feel for how a players skills will translate to another position in college. Will he be quick enough to guard high level guys on the perimeter? Will his offensive production continue in college against bigger, more athletic players?
From the clips I have watched he looks like he has one elite skill, his outside shot. In todays college game (and especially in the style that Coach Ewing says he wants to play) that is a really important skill. I hope the Hoyas pursue him hard and he becomes a key player, who somehow slipped through the cracks.

The Seton Hall game hilites the need for an elite shooter on this team. If Brandon Murray is an elite shooter, we could definitely use him. And per some video clips I've viewed, he appears to be pretty athletic as well. Sign him up!

If we don't follow through with an offer for this kid I'm going to be crestfallen. Not only does he seem like a hell of a player, but he sort of feels like "HoyaTalk's guy" at this point. We didn't discover him, but it was cool how a thread popped up about him on 2/4 and by 2/8 Patrick was in the gym to watch him. Feels like every spring there are a few guys who one or more people on this board are begging or demanding that the staff offer (think Sherwyn Devonish), and nothing ever comes of it. In this case, they actually tuned in at the same time we did.
And, I feel like every post in this thread has been in favor of offering/landing him--pretty much as unanimous as it gets around here. It would be really welcome to have our first Baltimore kid in years, and with a skill set that addresses some needs. To get that in spring would be such a huge coup.

What is holding the staff back from offering? Could be a couple things. First, we seem to be a bit more hesitant to pull the trigger on an offer with guys lately after the Great Defection of 2019. Seems like character and background checks might be a bit more important this time around since we got burned by it earlier in the season. Not trying to suggest there's anything to be worried about here whatsoever, but the staff should definitely to take their time to look into all the kids we offer, especially if there's no obvious time crunch. Also we might be a bit worried about offering when there hasn't been much of any high major involvement. His best offer so far I believe is from DePaul, so we might be testing the waters a bit to see if other teams think he belongs at a true high major or not. Obviously the staff is going to come to their own independent conclusions about his ability, but when you're the big fish in the pond that is his recruitment, you can play it a bit slower than usual.

What is holding the staff back from offering? I’m just impressed that we have a 5 page thread going on a player that we are not even sure we are interested in. Love the passion!

What is holding the staff back from offering? Recruitment is also a 2way street...Brandon has to show interest in GTown too....

Let me guess, we will finally offer after a dozen programs do. Snooze you loose, unless you’re a blue blood.

We know two guys were absolutely dismissed from the team since Ewing began here due to character concerns, even if you choose to treat the three transfers this season as ambiguous. Regardless, the program clearly has had bad pr as a result of all these dismissals and transfers, whether warranted or not, and I see no problem with extra diligence to make sure nothing else comes up.

We have no idea what's going on except that we know that the staff evidently saw him play over the weekend...its possible that it was their first time seeing him...that they expressed serious interest in meeting with him, his family and his coaching staff and watching him again...with the prospect of making a formal offer thereafter if all goes well, with that occurring at an official visit sometime soon...that's what I would hope for, and although there are other scenarios, it would seem to be a reasonable process if both parties express interest...fingers crossed

I didn't bring the issue up, I was responding to a narrative that has to stop. The post said, and I quote, "after the great defections of 2019". Well 2019 was last year and to my knowledge no players got dismissed for character issues in 2019.
