Baylor continues atop the Associated Press Top 25 for a third straight week, extending their winning to eighteen games with a 67-53 win at Iowa State and a 68-52 win against Texas Christian. Four of the remaining top five teams this week maintained their positions; #2 Gonzaga gained road victories at Santa Clara (87-72) and San Francisco (83-79), #3 Kansas notched a 65-50 win at Oklahoma State and a 78-75 win against Texas Tech, and #4 San Diego State improved to 23-0 after an 85-57 win at New Mexico and an 80-68 win against Utah State. Louisville rounds out the top five teams in this week’s poll, moving up one slot after road victories at Boston College, 86-69, and at North Carolina State, 77-57.
Auburn and Maryland advanced the furthest in this week’s rankings, each gaining six slots. The Terrapins moved up to #9 after a 77-76 victory at Indiana and an 82-72 win against then-#18 ranked Iowa, and the Tigers moved up to #11 after a double overtime 83-82 win at Mississippi, and a 75-66 win against then-#13 ranked Kentucky. Colorado and Houston fell the furthest amongst still-ranked teams this week, each falling four spots. The Buffaloes lost at California Los Angeles, 72-68, and won at Southern California, 78-57, while the Cougars won at East Carolina, 69-59, and lost at Cincinnati, 64-62..
Wichita State and Rutgers both fell out of the rankings this week; the Shockers lost at Tulsa, 54-51, while the Scarlet Knights defeated Purdue, 70-63, and lost against Michigan at Madison Square Garden, 69-63. They were replaced in the AP Top 25 by Creighton, which returns to the rankings at #21, and Arizona, which returns at #23. The Bluejays defeated Xavier, 77-66, and won at then-#8 ranked Villanova, 76-61, and the Wildcats won twice on the road at Washington, 75-72, and at Washington State, 66-49.
There are now four Big East Conference teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25, with Creighton being joined by Villanova, Seton Hall and Butler.
