The key in this one is if St. Johns can hit outside jumpers. Their three-point shooting percentage (T310 in the country, 30.2%) rivals our three-point defense (T305 in the country, 36%) so it's going to come down to that. Who's weakness gets exploited. Either ours does, or theirs. Xavier is also a poor shooting team, but the difference there is Xavier can beat you inside with bigs, St. John's can't. St. John's bigs aren't great and Allen and Mosely can handle that pressure. It will come down to their three-point shooting. Last game it was horrific, this one who knows. If there was ever a game for us to go 2-3 zone this is it. They can't shoot 3's so just pack the paint, get the rebounds and run. I think that plan works against St John's. They only have a few players who can make threes when left all alone, (LJ and Heron) so make sure to identify them when they are on the floor and contest their looks. The zone for a some possessions should be effective in a game like this. I think the biggest issue is just taking care of the ball and not letting the St John's pressure defense cause turnovers and bad shots. St John's is not actually that good of a defensive team, they are more just a relentless defensive team that hopes to speed the game up on their opponent and create turnovers. Need to be prepared for the pressure and make them pay for trying to press in the backcourt. This is a big game for Allen to show leadership and ball security.

I think that plan works against St John's Georgetown. They only have a few players who can make threes when left all alone, (LJ and Heron Mosely and Blair) so make sure to identify them when they are on the floor and contest their looks. The zone for a some possessions should be effective in a game like this.

Yikes!!

I had a good feeling going into the Butler game and we couldn’t finish. I do not have a good feeling going into this one.

Not sure our record could recover from a loss tomorrow. Would be the nail in the coffin and bury us in the bottom end of the league. ☹️

Why on earth do you folks do this to yourselves? I’ll watch and obviously be rooting for an anomaly, but why would any of us expect anything but another underwhelming performance? We’re going to play man, which is just straight up stupid against an SJU team that can’t throw it in the ocean. They’ll spend all day driving past us, getting to the line and rim and some Anybull will emerge from obscurity and drop a career-high 25 while Yurt floats, Mac hunts, Pickett vanishes and Pat screams “rebound” from the bench.

The first 10 minutes have set the tone for every BE road game so far this year. Even if not talented, SJU is going to come out with some fire early after being embarrassed in DC a few weeks ago. If we can finally show the ability to weather the initial storm and show some effort (and tactical smarts) on the defensive end, I think we could be OK. But it's going to take both the players and staff to raise their quality in tandem to get this done today and give us a shot for the rest of the season.
