Will he dye his hair teal tomorrow?

Will be keeping fingers crossed until tomorrow! If we can get this done, then shift focus to some wings/ 3 pt shooters and a bulky enforcing PF. I hope we add Beard. But even if we do I strongly think we still need to bring in another guard (juco or grad transfer). Agreed but we won't likely have our sights on that individual until April/May. Hopefully roster will be almost filled at that time and we can get a grad transfer/juco that sees himself as the last piece. A point forward type wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing either as we round out the roster.

Does this put us out for whitney? Different positions and Hoyas have lots of available scholarships.

We did it last year and competed pretty well... Akinjo was a much higher ranked player than these two. Not that it turned out too well. There’s a bigger force at play here. Staff needs to retain current talent. Have to hope those due back next season see the new players coming in as an improvement and moving the program forward. Beard was ranked in the 50s/70s a year ago, higher than Akinjo’s final ranking and higher than RJ Davis a year ago. Also, as I said in the other thread, plenty of PGs ranked in the 100-150 range are very successful in a defined role their freshman year. Look at Aaron Thompson for Butler.

Does this put us out for whitney? Don’t think so as Whitney is more of a 3/4...and we have, I believe, 7 total scholarships for next year?

Akinjo finished 90th on the 247 composite list for 2018 - having reached as high as 85. Beard was at #59 in July of 2018, but dropped in 2019 into the 200s. He's at 222 overall right now, but it definitely seems like he's trending in the right direction. The new Rivals ranking (146) looks like evidence he'll be moving up before the final lists.

Tyler Beard (2020) – Brad Beal Elite PG | 6-foot-2 | 175 lbs | No. 75 overall Another highly-rated point guard, Tyler Beard made some nice plays during the course of the weekend although he struggled with his shot. He did not see the court for as many minutes as the other guards on this list but still had his fair share of impact moments. He is a hard-nosed defender and solid playmaker, although he did struggle with his assist-to-turnover ratio in Dallas. This could be influenced by the idea that these were among his first games with Brad Beal Elite on the circuit. In the five contests this weekend, he posted averages of 4.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists (to 2.0 turnovers) in 16.6 minutes per game. These numbers may have simply been a result of struggling from the floor as he shot just 7-for-22 from the field, including missing all three of his 3-point attempts. This might not have been Beard’s best statistical weekend but he is still a really solid point guard with a bright future. Brad Beal Elite went 2-3 in the session. bustingbrackets.com/2019/05/27/butler-basketball-nike-eybl-dallas-updates-recruiting-targets/

At this point in the game this is about as good a freshman recruit as we can give a scholarship to. Sign him up!

Akinjo also led us to a first round loss against Harvard in the NIT his freshman year so I wouldn't worry about rankings too much. The key will be if he plays his game and within a defined role all while listening and taking coaching. This would be a big pick-up to solidify a core going forward.

Leading us to a first round NIT loss at home is as low as you can go. 😉

We need a pg that will get others involved and help lead the team. If it’s a me first attitude, it could be devastating to the program. Hope he picks the Hoyas and can contribute to some degree.

He reminds me a bit of Jason Clark but maybe shorter by a couple of inches.

He reminds me a bit of Jason Clark but maybe shorter by a couple of inches. Not sure I see Clark, who was All-Met POY, a 3 year starter and an All-Conference level player. As far as recent Hoya comparisons, Beard looks to me more like a cross between Tre Campbell and Jagan Mosley. I think of the high school seniors we've been mentioned with (excluding MAM) he looks like the best of the group, at least to my untrained eye, after having scoured all the available highlight film. He looks like he has some combo guard tendencies and might make a solid first guard off the bench for the next couple years (behind McClung and hopefully a grad transfer PG). He's having a good senior year and looks the part of a high major, and so given all that I'll be happy if we get a commitment from him today.

He reminds me a bit of Jason Clark but maybe shorter by a couple of inches. From my recollection, Clark was only about 6'2", but had some ridiculous wingspan in the range of 6'7"
