Time for another road win at Cintas.

Must win at this point. Climbing out of a 2-5 hole is likely too much for a team that has yet to win 3 straight conference games under this regime.
Not saying it will be easy (it never is at Cintas), but today and the at Providence result necessitate it.
Unfortunately, Xavier will be well rested and prepared for this one. Will take another gutty effort to pull this one out and fight back towards the cut line.

It's seems like a really bad spot game. I was worried about this one before the game this weekend and still am. Xavier struggles on offense and had a week to design offense against our easily beatable hard hedge. They play similar styles to Providence and can defend really well. They have good inside game and Marshall might be a matchup problem for this smaller Hoyas lineup. They had more rest for this game and have their season on the line. If they lose this game, they are done. I will need someone to explain to me how the Hoyas can take this one as I think it's a horrible spot. The Hoyas have less rest AND have to travel. I don't like the spot here. I've been wrong before, but I have a really bad feeling about this one. I see this going a lot like the Providence game. Hope I'm wrong.

I hope this team comes out ready. They fight every game, so I suspect they will arrive unhappy with how the home stand finished in DC. The key will be keeping the offense moving, limiting turnovers, and playing some good defense. It's never easy to win on the road. Hope we can grab this one.

If we can win we would effectively end Xavier’s hopes this year. If everyone thinks the BE is getting 6 teams in, the more we can eliminate the competition the better.
DePaul’s win keeps them in the mix, but arguably SJ and PC are behind the eight ball. If we can put Xavier in that camp it will only help our case, even if we only get to 8 wins. We still will have to win our games, but the less bubble competition we have (especially intraconference) the better.
This is a very interesting stretch coming up, one that will make or break our chances, and we probably won’t be favored in any game over the next four, nor five out of the next six games. This stretch also includes are only extended breaks - 6 days off between at Xavier and vs Butler and 7 days off between vs DePaul and at Butler. Personally I wish our other extended break was a little later, but maybe it’s just as well we have them sooner than later so we can stay afloat.
Matchup wise we play well against St Johns, Xavier, and even historically Butler. So I’m cautiously optimistic that we can at least go 3-3 as anything less and I think all tournament aspirations are dead going into the final 6 games at 4-8 or worse.

If the guys can steal this win at X, I think we would be in good shape: a much needed 6 day break to prep for Butler at home. Two very winnable games.

Xavier really can't shoot. Like REALLY can't shoot. Gotta make sure the same goes for Wednesday
They need this one just as badly as we do, so we've got to be on it from the jump. Locked in on every part of our game. As always, it'll take a full team effort and we're going to have to do whatever we can to match their toughness or at least not let them bully us with their physicality

We need to play through their defense and commit them to foul. They like to play tight defense, let them we may need the free throws at the end. Hoya's Win!

Must win game after the close game with Marquette. I didn't think the Marquette game was must win (although we should have won) but the fact we kept it close didn't hurt us terribly. We still have to play Butler, Nova, and SH at home and I can only see winning one of those games. I believe the BE will have 7 teams in the NCAA and it will come down to us vs DePaul as the last team in from the conference. Rebound and hit our FTs and this game should be very winnable. We lose this game and it will be very difficult to recover unless we can pull off a major upset later in the schedule.
If we make the NCAAs this year with this team, Ewing will have solidified his status as an outstanding offensive coach. With some help with defensive schemes we can turn into a scary good program in the near future. There are a lot of doubts on this board but I believe we can get there.

This is a game I really want to watch, but may miss it with work travel and meetings in Brooklyn. I'm recording it, but won't be able to watch until Friday night.
I'm hoping Patrick has sparked improvement on defense he was laying out after the Marquette game. A lot of miss coverages, blown helps, and not calling switches. I hope the guys loaded up on pedialite or electrolit and are ready to rock and roll.

We definitely need to tighten up multiple aspects of the defense. Our guys are athletic enough to defend better, need to play as a unit.

Tough road game against a team that has lost 3 in a row and is coming off a week break. Just SURVIVE the first half and go from there. 2 of the first 3 road league games have been over at halftime.

I just hope our guys are rested and not breaking down. They have a lot of heart but the minutes are starting to add up.

GAMEDAY!!!
This is a good one to get excited about. We need this win against Xavier to keep our current slight upward trajectory. Sounds like they're really going to try to hit the boards and try to out muscle us. We should have the size advantage down low but Pickett is going to has his hands full with Marshall. Need to win on intensity, while Xavier hasn't had a great BE, they are still a dangerous team...no sleeping. They may have slightly more depth then us but not by much, they are coming off a week of rest though so we need to stay focused until the final whistle. Guys are getting tired but they need to just keep pushing and staying sharp. This is a very winnable game and a must to keep our tournament hopes alive (yes they are still alive). Play as a team, pass the ball, give 110%, and REBOUND.
Go Hoyas!!!!!

Xavier is not in the same class of shooting as SHU, Nova, or Marquette. Hopefully it stays that way and this game resembles more of the St Johns game than the PC game. We have been known to end opponent slumps though. I feel cautiously optimistic about this one, and would feel even better if Xavier hadn’t been coming off such a long rest. No road games are easy, but this feels doable.
It would be great to get to 3-4 and have the weekend off before hosting (a suddenly very beatable) Butler team next Tuesday. The downside scenario is we lose and have to sit on it for a week while possibly getting an angry Butler team. But I’ll try my best to remain glass half full and think this is the start of a 7 day stretch that could see us back to .500 and in the top half of the league standings to start Feb.
