Excellent point... Part of his rant was him stating that "if Akinjo was still on the team, Syracuse would've won" Are folks on the board promoting & defending his comments ok with those as well? Syracuse isn't very good this year. We take them at 7 or 11 deep. Having said that, I took it more as a courtesy to Patrick because I'm sure Boeheim realizes that Patrick is in a tough spot and he actually really likes Pat and always has. He's not entirely wrong about Akinjo but he did take it a bit far. Better to comment on the situation than individual players but, considering Akinjo wasn't a part of the serious sh*t that has happened and only, apparently, wanted out, I don't take much issue with what Boeheim said. If he believes it, I think it's within bounds only in light of the fact that the evidence on the court seems to support his comments for three games now. He's not the only one to mention it. The SMU players also mentioned it from their scouting and film review preparation of all the Hoyas games. The teams preparing for us can really see the difference between the two different teams.

Glad to see we are back to winning again as much as anyone, but man...let's stop piling on Akinjo. Akinjo might have been a bad fit,but not a bad kid. We still don't know why he transferred, correct? Directly from Akinjo's mouth, not some uncle or third-cousin tweet? Akinjo helped the program. He thought highly of himself and won games for us last year. Big East Rookie of the year. This year, the team started off slow. The team was in a funk. Given all that has been going on behind the scenes, it is not a surprise we started off slow. Boeheim said what he said. Maybe it was backhanded, but it seemed he was backing Ewing and complimenting the players who are still with the team. I don’t know. This isn’t a case of a player and program being a bad fit and amicably parting. It’s a case of a player quite literally quitting on his teammates after contributing to putting them in a hole and spending over a year repeatedly ignoring the coaching. He consistently put himself over his team and when he was asked to stop doing that he quit. He isn’t a bad person outside of basketball but he is a bad teammate. And while he won us games last year, he also lost us quite a few as well. The PR behind his decision to quit on his team likely had more of a negative effect from a PR perspective than any good he did for the program. How do you know he quit? We don't know why he transferred. People transfer for a lot of reasons. People gave the other 3 transfers the benefit of the doubt initially before jumping to conclusions, but not Akinjo. Players transfer for a myriad of reasons. PR perspective? Akinjo wasn't alleged to have issues with women, like others. I think that is a much bigger negative affect.

We were down by 19 to Mount St Mary’s in the second of the season. I think we very likely could have los this game at 11. I think we win by more with 9 though. I wasn't saying that we beat every team we should or that every game is as easy as it should be. I was only saying that, 7 strong or 11 strong, this group is better than Syracuse and should beat them. One of those, "that's why we play the games," things. Conversely, most legit teams in the nation, on any given night, can beat this team. 7 or 11 deep. Gotta bring it each and every day. The guys left aren't guys that have ever had their effort questioned except for, maybe, Jamorko. And, personally, I think he has over a half of a season of disputing those questions evidenced by his work on the floor. His defense and boarding remains underrated. If his offense catches up, some here are going to be wondering, "Where did this guy come from?" I won't be one of those guys. If it doesn't, I'm fine with what he's already bringing. The frosting on the cake I'm hoping happens more for him than for any other reason.

Whether that's true or not, we'll never know. But his uncle did put it out there without much prodding or provocation.

That team “should” best the current 7 player roster and think they’d lose by double digits 8 out of 10 times.

Why are we protecting a quitter from a coach who knows 10x what anyone else who has chimed in on the situation knows? You don’t think Boeheim knows what he’s watching on film?
The truth is going to hurt for JA...and it’s going to keep hurting. Good riddance.

Transferring mid season is literally quitting on your team mid season. Please give me a plausible scenario that wouldn’t be him quitting on this team? Regardless about what’s worse, having your “best player” and point guard quit on your team 7 games into the season is a PR nightmare in recruiting for a new coach trying to rebuild a program. The off court stuff won’t impact results on the court or in recruiting as much as the statement Akinjo made with transferring the way he did. It might end up working out in our favor if we keep winning but the result of that is going to be a lot of bad press for Akinjo, which is what he’s getting now. He made a huge gamble and these are the effects of that gamble. I’m not even going to acknowledge giving the other three played the benefit of the doubt because very few have given them the benefit of the doubt and two of their transfers were spurred by obvious needs off the court. I also think the way we have played in the court the last few games points to Akinjo having had a net negative impact on the team which is why no one is focusing on the other three.

I dunno for some reason people want to continue to protect him and blame the uncle, or Ewing or the other players or make some kind of excuse such as he's only 19. He's had so much more leeway than any of the other players on the team. At some point you have to be held accountable for your play and your actions of quitting on the team.

Maybe it was backhanded, but it seemed he was backing Ewing and complimenting the players who are still with the team. The aunt and uncle raised him, so coming from the uncle is essentially the same as coming from his father. I would say anything coming from the uncle is echoing how James feels. According to the uncle James left because of a rift with PE and his coaching style, and because he also disliked playing with Mac because he dominated the ball too much and because they perceived that the fans liked Mac better than James. I also don't think it's a surprise who the 3 players from the 11 man rotation were that James was not following on IG... Mac, Yurt and Allen. Mac for the reasons above. Yurt because he was the focal point of the offense. I think James believed after his excellent freshman season, he'd be making a big jump and becoming a 20+ ppg scorer in a Myles Powell/Marcus Howard type role. Instead Yurt was the focal point, as any sane person knew was going to happen, and I'm sure that wasn't sitting well him or his uncle. As for Allen, he represented a threat to James playing time as the season progressed. Last season there wasn't really a pure PG to steal minutes from James, but with a veteran like Allen waiting in the wings this year, James likely felt threatened that it was only a matter of time before Allen started playing better and James could potentially find himself sitting next to Mac for one of those 12-14 minute stretches after a bad turnover or shot. Josh, who was apparently his best friend on the team, deciding to transfer seemed to be the nail in the coffin. He likely figured losing Josh would hurt the team greatly and given how poorly they were already playing, didn't wanna go down with the sinking ship. I'm sure as a final FU to Ewing, his teammates, and the fans, he figured him bailing too would send the program into complete disarray and they'd be lucky to win 5 more games the entire season without them. As for him being a bad kid or not, I can't say, but I do know he's the only kid I noticed that rarely cheered on or seemed happy for his teammates when they would play well while he was on the bench. He was definitely all about himself, and even someone like me who never liked him from the start, would've never predicted how much of a positive impact his absence could have on his teammates. He was the true definition of a cancer.

I was at the game today and walked away knowing that we were going to get past the defections of the last few weeks and thrive. Players will come and go, but the program will weather the storm. So proud of the kids who remain on the team and will root for them to succeed. I sat near George Muresan, who was so excited to see his son get in the game. He took his phone out and recorded every minute of his son’s play. He cheered loudly for all the players. There’s a life lesson or two to be learned from our last three games.

He easily could have done all that without the pointed comments about Akinjo... Seeing that PE has taken the high road, I think Boeheim should have also... Why? Akinjo doesn't play for Syracuse and it's obvious Coach Boheim isn't recruiting him. He didn't use Akinjo's name even though it was quite obvious who he was talking about. You also have Akinjo's family throwing shots at Coach Ewing on social media disparaging his reputation and much worse. Coach Ewing can't/won't go back at Akinjo's people. If he could I'm sure we would learn a lot and it's possible some of Akinjo's opportunities would dry up. Coaching/Basketball is a fraternity and even through the bitter rivalry, coach Boheim isn't going to just leave a fellow coach in Ewing out here defenseless taking shots...

Thank you. You get it. Uncle has spoken. PE can't...Just a great coach giving PE a bit of a shout out when seeing the unfairness of the situation.

I would also add that James being listed in the late first round of nbadraft.net's 2020 NBA mock draft during the off season, likely didn't help matters either. I'm sure it inflated his already large ego and legitimized those dollar signs the aunt and uncle had in their eyes. He was shooting so poorly and the team was playing so poorly, they likely knew whatever draft stock he did or didn't have was slipping. Since I'm sure in their eyes James and the teams poor play couldn't of possibly been any fault of James himself, Ewing and his center driven offense along with Mac and his shoot first ways had to be the reasons behind James poor play, and they needed to get him out of there before he fell off the NBA radar.

Man, that one play prevents 8-2 and an almost certain Top 25 ranking. We don’t lose that game we probably still have LeBlanc and Akinjo and likely still Alexander and Garder, and I doubt we go 3-0 with double digit wins the next three games. I see those outcomes as totally uncorrelated.
