Opening the conference with Nova @ home. Then UConn 2 days later. Yowza. Ouch, between this and a shortened OOC, a quality BE record is going to be an uphill climb. Maybe the preseason poll having us 11th had seen our schedule.

Is it too late for Georgetown, Howard, American, GW ... maybe UMD to organize some sort of round robin MTE -- a Battle for the DMV? Seems like all the teams could get 4 games or so and not travel, agree and/or share resources on testing, and generate some TV revenue. Allows Hoyas and other locals to not worry about the travel quarantine restrictions. I mean technically we could (pretty sure Howard is in another MTE now, but I get the idea), but Rothstein reported that we weren't trying to participate in an MTE and I don't see that changing. I understand that we are not planning on participating in any existing MTEs ... it just seems like we could have shown some leadership/creativity and created a local event that did not include travel or quarantines. It would not be very difficult for 4 or 5 local teams to get on board, and possibly share in the cost, for a testing regime. Just an opportunity missed. How great would it be to see GU v. UMD, GW, Howard, American & George Mason one game a day over Thanksgiving? It doesn't appear to me that the team or the athletic department is trying to lead during this difficult time. Perhaps they are unaware of the medical professionals at the medical school and hospital who would be more than happy to help pull off a safe event that would generate a lot of local goodwill.

I just don’t see a truncated season even taking place. We will play games, but many are going to get canceled.

Maybe the preseason poll having us 11th had seen our schedule. That is a tough start, but I think picking us as 11th has more to do with our unproven roster than anything else. The primary pieces we are returning are Wahab (who had a very promising freshman year, and I am excited to see him develop), Pickett (who despite hype for the last three years, has never lived up to it), and Blair (who has been solid, but would be a role player at best on most Big East teams). We lost Yurtseven, and McClung. The big wild card is the incoming class and transfers. If we want to make any sort of statement in the Big East, it's going to have to come from a combination of Wahab/Pickett/Blair stepping up, and some of the new guys stepping up. I hope it happens, and will be rooting for it to happen, but realistically, it's easy to see why we were picked 11th.

After following the Hoyas for nearly four decades, I can never remember a year with more unknowns about the roster and their capabilities. I know that based upon recruiting rankings expectations should be very low, but the influx of three transfers, the impact of Coach Crouch who seems to have a good way of connecting and motivating players, the glimpse of what Ewing could do with essentially a 5 person team last year, and the fact that this COVID year is likely to play havoc on practice times of every other team as well, gives me some hope that this team may exceed expectations, particularly later in the season. Starting with Nova and Connecticut is certainly not a dream scenario, particularly playing Nova without any fans, but who knows.

I like playing Nova at home without the fans. Although it will suck for our season ticket holders, Nova brings in tons of their fans to our home games. It’s not uncommon for our game against them to feel like an away game. Usually I wouldn’t mind it, but in such a strange year, it might help us. With our list of unknowns, we might need all the help/luck we can get. Furthermore, IIRC, UCon also traveled en masse. Finally, talking about annoying fan bases that travel in huge numbers to away games and overwhelm our relaxed home fans, West Virginia will not be able to bring theirs to our game in early December.

Totally cool with UMBC as it reduces travel in the times of Covid. Also it seems with 20 conference games, UMBC, Cuse, and West Virginia (Gavitt Games), we are looking at 2 more games to be announced if the 25 projected is correct. Any thoughts about whom the other 2 could be?
Wouldn't mind 2 local non-big 6 conference teams, as it seems UMBC is our only cupcake game so far. This team could use 2 more games to gel & figure themselves out.

I know most of the people here are more tuned in than the casual fan, but overall records matter outside this bubble. Pat going 15-15 his 1st year instead of 12-18 or worse was a big deal -- especially since those cupcake games were almost certainly not keeping us from postseason chances. This year, with even fewer chances for easy victories and a similarly daunting outlook (re: postseason), the number of victories could easily end up in single digits. Which won't look pretty. If we could eek out 3-4 wins in the OOC & 6-7 in the BE slate and get to at least 10 wins... I think that would be a very nice accomplishment -- and keep the wolves at bay for at least through next year. As much as I like what Pat's doing with the '21 class, a 5-20 record is going to have a lot of people calling for his head.

This is a great opportunity for the players to band together and hold out until they get paid.

Like that we're keeping it local. Interesting that they're playing twice the out of conference games Georgetown will be playing. Sad that these low major schools need to play more games to keep the lights on in theory putting themselves at more risk.

They do have 4 games after we will have started conference play but I agree with the general sentiment. I'm surprised that we have scheduled a game 3 days before BE opening against Nova on 12/11, you'd think Coach would want at least 5 days to regroup and rest up for the BE slog.
