Not a great weekend for the conference. Given the expectation we all will be beating up on each other we need everyone’s NET/RPI as high as possible going into to conference play. Hopefully December will be a better month for the conference, as ironically our Texas win is the best win and only win against a ranked team by anyone in the league. Thanks for nothing, Ed Cooley.

Villanova flopped against Baylor. Time to cast out that laggard Jay Wright.

Just goes to show our conference mates are inconsistent too. It is not just the Hoyas.

A nice write-up for the squad...
GEORGETOWN IS PROBABLY BACK
I do not think the Hoyas are back just yet.
But I do think they have the chance to be a top 25 team this season.
As I wrote on Friday night from Madison Square Garden, Georgetown has all the pieces you need for a team that will be dangerous. They have a talented playmaker at the point in James Akinjo. They have a hoss on the block in Omer Yurtseven. And they have what seems like 20 tough, aggressive, athletic wings that allow the Hoyas to create all kinds of problems defensively.
There are kinks that still need to be worked out – specifically, Yurtseven’s fouling issues and Akinjo’s ball-dominance – but for the most part, the Hoyas have the horses to make some noise when it matters. They haven’t hit their ceiling yet, but it is within reach.
I believe part of Akinjo's "ball dominance" in the half-court has a lot to do with running so much high screen game which is easy to defend when the screener is a big who's not a threat to rim run or pop out for threes...

Thought DePaul was coming back to reality when they were down 18 to Central Michigan at the half. Then they outscored them by 31 in the 2nd half and won going away. DePaul is actually good this year. Not sure why no one is paying much attention to them.

Paul Reed is going to make money playing basketball somewhere - if he can get a bit stronger, it could well be the NBA. Moore is a real point guard. They have a number of athletic young wings who can play. Their talent level is the highest it has been in the new big east era, by far. They look every bit as good as any Big East team so far this season. Don't be surprised if we are underdogs when we play them in Chicago, and if they win at least as many BE games this season as we do.

Oh I think Reed is a lock to here his name called by Adam Silver next June. The NBA salivates for wing players with his physical gifts. He could easily develop into a clone on of Pascal Siakim. In fact Reed's a head of Siakim in development at the same age. I'm extremely high Paul Reed!

After that Seton Hall loss, things are not looking as good as they should. Aside from the Hoyas beating Texas, Depaul and Butler have the only good wins. DePaul at Iowa and at BC, and Butler neutral over an alright Stanford team. Seton Hall, Xavier, and Villanova have all missed opportunities. Aside from that, it's Miss St without Weatherspoon (Nova)? At St. Louis(S. Hall)? Neutral to UCONN (Xavier)? Home to Purdue(Quette)? Many opportunities left but at this point, the A-10 has been better. Need more wins. Still, some tournaments left and opportunities. Creighton has San Diego St. tomorrow. Marquette has a good Davidson team, who isn't playing to their talent now. Providence starts the wooden Legacy. Then the Big East- Big 12 and some other games, so I'm not saying the conference stinks, I'm just saying it NEEDS to be better. Hoyas, DePaul, and Butler are the only teams with good wins. That shouldn't be.

I think it is all just a case of there not being a dominant team in the Power 5 this year. It's not limited to the Big East. I think the mid-majors are going to have a hell of a chance come tournament time to wreak havoc. For the Hoyas coming up, playing at Oklahoma State could prove to be the biggest challenge of the OOC schedule.

I think they will be and surprise a lot of people.

PC loses to Long Beach State after blowing a 19 pt 2nd half lead. Panic time in Providence.
I think they’ll be better come conference time but with an ugly OOC record.

I'm shocked at the overall struggle of the BIG EAST as a conference in the OOC part of the schedule. I thought Seton Hall would have been a lock top 10 team. They returned everybody from last year. I expected Georgetown, Xavier & Providence just to look cleaner as they returned a lot of key players and Villanova would be tough just based on the amount of high level talent they brought in. Really surprised! I thought DePaul would be better than most pundits speculated but I never thought I would be saying thank God for DePaul & Butler who are carrying the conference right now.

There really is no dominant team at all in college basketball. Could be a year you see multiple mid majors or middling Power conference team make a final 4 run. Anybody can really beat anybody this season. Really feels as if the National Championship is wide open...
