I think by middle of season he will be starting point guard is better then Jalen Harris now in my opinion.just a matter of time.go gu. It's really hard to make any conclusions after 1 game and Jalen just looked really off...but I have that same opinion...Dante just feels like the better player using the eye test. Will be a great problem to have if Dante does end up being the better player...

D Harris is our answer, Jalen will have moments but he’s a TO machine and coupled with a terrible outside shot...not an upgrade. Playing the frosh has waaay more upside

At any point this year if it is J Harris or Bile vs. an underclassmen, it should go the way of the underclassmen every time. We aren't going to be good. We aren't a tourney team. We are building for 21/22. Get those minutes to the kids that need to develop. Bile & J Harris are simply stop gaps to fill in for the transfer explosion of last year. A grad transfer here or there can help fill a need on a well rounded team and that isn't who we are if we are being honest with ourselves.

Who cares about the best player on a horrible team unless he might be here in a couple years when the team might have a chance to be less horrible?

The short-term goal is still to win this year. If we start 0-8 in conference, the season looks lost, and the vets are god awful -- I'd have no problem leaning on the FR more. But - don't forgot those occasional wins. There's no good optics in going 2-23 this year, even if you've uncovered some young prospects. If we're not going to the post-season -- but the older guys can keep us closer to 10-15 -- I'm all for that instead.

I guess the answer to my question is that the guys on the team care and that’s fair. They should be given every chance to win now.

We always get solid reports coming out of Kenner so I would put those reports on the same level. If the kid is a diamond in the rough (we have a team of those) then I'll gladly eat crow but my guess is a guy coming in from the southland and being our best player is probably more damning of our current roster than a ringing endorsement of Bile. I do like what I saw from Carey though and only wished we could have gotten him more involved in the 2nd half against UMBC.

Lol I’m getting reports from folks (non media) who attend practice....but sure categorize them as you wish. 🤷🏽♂️ "We sitting in here . . . and we in here talking about practice. I thought Dante looked capable of competing athletically last night and was Ok on defense and handling the ball, but he needs to make those open 3's. He came with a reputation of a shooter/scorer, and I realize it is just two games, but he needs to knock down the shots when left alone. I think the rest of his game translates really well and he can contribute if his shots start to fall.

Dante does a good job of looking the part without actually being effective. That’s why the views on him are so wide right now. He shouldn’t be playing at this level right now but on this team he has to. This is not surprising considering the level he played in HS. He wasn’t particularly efficient even against that comp so there is no reason to believe he will be here for a while. He does have the chance to be a very good backup in a few years which hopefully is what this team needs by then.

Deeper dive into the numbers show he was never an efficient scorer in high school, basically just chucked it up at every opportunity since he was the only guy on his team with any modicum of talent.

He does have the chance to be a very good backup in a few years which hopefully is what this team needs by then. Im sorry I don’t know how else to put it but this is a garbage take. He’s playing team basketball. He knows he can get his shot off and compete, hence passing up open shots he created to keep the offensive plays running. I didn’t know what to expect from him coming in and wasn’t sure he could play at this level, but after two games it’s clear that he belongs, on offense and defense. A lot of folks don’t realize the jump from hs to college has a lot to do with the physicality (hence Sibley, Clark smashing the boards early), and Dante already has the strength to fit in seamlessly. And strength doesn’t just affect making plays with/at the ball, it affects your running angles on offense and defense and in a team game a step can easily cost your team a bucket. Dante clearly knows how to play and has the confidence to compete, he just needs to add experience. Ah yes here you come to defend the guy with the 2nd lowest ORtg and highest DRtg just to be able to refute the point. The guy that has 2 whole points on 6 shots and 1 entire assist in 19 minutes of play so far. You also mention Sibley smashing the boards early which makes me think you don't actually watch the games. That would be the least surprising revelation ever by the way. Are you this clueless in real life or just on here?

I like the idea of having Harris going forward. On first glance, he looks to have enough handles and quickness to be at least a backup PG in future years.
Now can he hit an occasional jumper (or 3FG)? Is he a talented enough passer? Will he be exposed on defense?
With more guards coming (Beard, Riley, Aminu?) + another year of Carey... we shouldn't need him to be a 20+ mpg guy next year. But if he can show some aptitude/improvement on the areas above, I think he'll be a good complement to the rest of those guys.

He is handling the ball well....he just needs to get acclimated to game speed, rid himself of the jitters, dont be afraid to make mistakes and play with confidence. I am encouraged. Our coaches are working with him, especially coach Crouch...just a hunch.

He gets better each game. He's confident and makes pretty good decisions under the bright lights. I think we have a winner!
