This may sound overly naive but what was Jonathan Wallace's ranking/evaluation back in the day? Granted a different player for a way different system. He is still to this day my favorite PG and surprised me how he comfortably steered the ship for us for 4 years. Maybe I'm just being overly optimistic at this point, but frankly, it's more therapeutic to think this way at this current juncture in our program. I don’t even know if he was ranked. He followed JT3 to Georgetown as a walk-on. For four years this fanbase focused on what he couldn’t do instead of what he could. Wallace was a uniquely mature freshman though. A leader, hard worker, unflappable. It’s rare. It’s not a knock on Harris to say we need a veteran PG to come in. If Dante beats them out, great! But we lose Allen AND Jagan — we can’t go into next year with just Dante and Mac. Agreed. Jonathan wasn't ranked, but he did fit the Princeton system model for a point guard. If I remember right he was a 2-star. Agree that was really mature, he had really high baskstball IQ and really good academic front as well.

I am not sure what type of competition he is playing against, but anytime a kid scores 30+ in a game it is impressive. Sounds like he has really good 3 point range, which every college team needs these days. Glad to have him on the team next year.

Absolutely, and I love that he can get into the lane with his quickness. If he buys into setting his teammates up like Allen does, he will make an impact sooner than later IMO

Know anything about his AAU level of play? Solid. He played on the UAA circuit. I just don't put much stock in the scoring without seeing how he played overall. The fact he's getting a lot of it from the 3 point line is a good sign. The drives to the hoop are whatever because he's way better than the comp, and can probably get that anytime he wants.

I’m glad he’s coming, but as we’ve seen first hand the past two weeks, a ball dominant, score-first point guard is tough to pair with Mac.
I think I’d be looking for a tall PG who is undervalued because he doesn’t score much. But has the length and lateral quicks to defend, tight handle, and passing/vision/low turnover acumen.
If you think I’m describing Terrell Allen, you’re right.

If you think I’m describing Terrell Allen, you’re right. I'm not sure that labeling Harris as ball dominant is fair. He obviously has to be at his high school for them to win as do most D1 PG's when they are in high school. It will be the coaches job to mold him into the PG they want and need. Akinjo seemed to stubborn to embrace the coaching and make the necessary changes needed to be a better all around PG. Let's see what Harris does when he gets to Georgetown. That being said, gotta believe the staff brings in a 5th year or JUCO PG to give Harris a chance to develop. I doubt Coach Ewing ever just hands the keys to a freshman PG again...

His AAU coach has mentioned that Harris accepted a facilitator role because that’s what his AAU team needed from him.

I would think he’d come in and have his role defined from the hop. Akinjo was a late add and at the time, a real coup. Problem for the staff was they didn’t spend much time recruiting him, getting to know who he really was. Recruit a kid for a year plus and you’ll get to see his true colours. Taking Harris allows the staff to build repore a full year before he’s expected to play minutes for the program. This is the type of player that could be molded into a solid contributor.

His AAU coach has mentioned that Harris accepted a facilitator role because that’s what his AAU team needed from him. Just to give a little more food for thought on how players ability to accept and star in their roles. McClung was a super star in high school in the state Virginia. After his junior season, he went and played with Team Loaded VA which was properly named because that squad was loaded and arguably the best AAU team in the country that summer. Even though he was the least known prospect on that team and needed to make a splash, he played mostly as a facilitator. I think he finished that summer averaging less then 7 PPG. Looking back now, I think it's obvious he was the most talented prospect on that team followed by the other PG who's at Princeton now. My bigger point is that he was willing to accept and play whatever role his coach/team needed him to play. That means he's open to coaching and sacrificing. I see Dante in that same light. He obviously a big time scorer on his high school team. On his AAU team his scoring wasn't needed as much since they had highly regarded bucket getters, so he was willing to take a back seat to them and play the role the coaches needed him to. In the UAA Gauntlet championship (under armours answer to Peach Jam), his team was missing their best player, so he stepped his game up and produced bigger numbers with elite level efficiency. So I'm not worried about Harris and his ability to not only come in and accept whatever role Coach Ewing decides will help the team best. I do expect him to be impactful as a freshman. To what level, I don't know. I also think that an upperclass PG will be brought in as well to streamline Harris's learning curve.

That's a solid point IDenj about the chance for the staff and Harris to develop their relationship and talk about how he can improve his game before stepping on campus. He also has a very good stable of coaches like Coach Staples and his AAU coaches with tremendous knowledge & experience that can help him improve in the areas that Coach Ewing and the staff deem need improvement. Another facet to consider that goes hand in hand with your point is that since Harris signed early, he can watch the Hoyas games over and over again to gain a strong understanding of the team's style of play that Coach Ewing is emphasizing. He will be able to come in with a much better understanding of the team philosophy.
