There were only two other teams (Air Force and New Mexico), who had their first runner slower than the Hoyas first runner.

Would have to think men disappointed with placing, though probably see room for improvement. seems like spencer went out too fast and faded steadily while nick wareham did not have a good race. Would think that have to get an auto at regionals to make NCAA. Margins are tight--small improvements from top guys can have big impact on scoring. Women probably view performance as ok-not great. Same issue with both teams--they have a number of good or potentially good runners but no real elites like both squads had a few years ago--and for most of the last 3 decades. Yes, Spencer went too fast and Nick had a poor race (he lost 41 places in going from 6K to 8K). Unlike last year the men seem to have more at large points than last year, when they had to finish in the top two are regionals, but didn't (Nova beat them at regionals, although the Hoyas beat them at BE). Essentially, the only at large point was beating Nova. If you beat some team that makes an automatic, that is helpful to make it yourself. But the Hoyas did not have enough wins against those people. They may have enough this year, if the teams that they beat make an automatic bid. But the way to guarantee a bid is by finishing in the top two at the region. I also fear going from 8K to 10K as they will have to do in the regionals and NCAA.

So essentially the men and women finish right about where they were predicted to.

Men remain #2 in their region behind Princeton:
There were some slight changes to the order of the top-5 teams of the Mid-Atlantic Region between Week 4 and Week 5.
Princeton and Georgetown are still the favorites to earn automatic bids to NCAAs, but Temple jumped from No. 5 to No. 3 thanks to its effort at the Penn State National Open. It was in State College, Pennsylvania, where the Owls captured the team title over now-No. 5 Penn.
Villanova, fresh off an eighth-place finish at the Pre-National Invitational, sits fourth.

The women remain #2 as well, but Penn State jumped over the Hoyas to become #1:
The Mid-Atlantic saw some changes between Week 4 and Week 5.
Penn State jumped four spots to take back the No. 1 spot following a win at the Penn State National. No. 2 Georgetown stayed put for a second week.
Penn and Princeton slid down to No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. No. 5 Villanova moved up a spot from No. 6 from their showing at Nuttycombe to round out the region.

In the national rankings the women remain in 28th place. The men still have not cracked the top 30 and even lost ground receiving only 14 votes and stand essentially in 33rd place with Nova in 31 even though they are 4th in the region to the Hoyas 2nd.
