Holt started at the 5. Nate Watson is out with a MCL injury and Khalif Young is just getting back from an injury. Pimpkins didn't play, but 58% 14/24 from the FT line and 22% 5/23 from 3 isn't going to cut it when real games start. If I'm an opponent I zone the crap out of Providence (or at least pack line and sag off) and take away their inside game and drives and dare them to beat me from 3.

Providence finished 20 spots ahead of Georgetown last year in Kenpom. I wouldn't put any stock in conference standings when not much separated 3rd from last.
I think both teams enter this season on similar footing. Providence has more answers, Hoyas have a little more ceiling.

Big East Basketball: 20 most interesting people of 2019-20 season bustingbrackets.com/2019/10/15/big-east-basketball-20-interesting-people-2019-20-season/6/James Akinjo & Mac McClung, Georgetown Another pair of teammates who can flip the balance of power in the Big East on its head. Akinjo and McClung are two of the most fascinating players to watch in the league, as they are equally capable of dragging the Hoyas to a win or ending their team’s hopes with poor decision-making and ghastly shot selection. Last year, the two combined to tally 26.5 ppg and 7.2 apg (good!) on a 37.4 shooting percentage and 5.0 tpg (bad!). While growing pains are to be expected from a youthful backcourt, those latter marks do raise some red flags for the future. Some guards are able to shake those mistakes as they age, but others struggle to break those inefficient habits. GU has plenty to build on with Akinjo and McClung, but for a program that expects to win now, another year of late-game gaffes from its backcourt duo will wear on the fan base.

Kenpom's Preseason Rankings are out. We slot in at 56 but plenty of room to move up! 2020 Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings kenpom.com/The last two seasons we've underperformed the initial rankings. For 2018-2019, we started at 55 and fell to 100 by the end of the year. For 2017-2018 we started at 80 and finished 94. Let's reverse that trend this season!

Marquette beat Indiana by 3. More importantly, I've never seen highlights, head coaches and players discussing a closed door scrimmages before...

Nothing about the fact that these two conferences are playing each other in the BE/B12 Challenge?

With these early Kenpom ratings the Hoya pre-conference schedule looks very good:
Texas #32 Oklahoma State #40 Penn State # 43 Syracuse #51 Hoyas #56 SMU #84

7. Seton Hall 18. Georgetown 19. Villanova 20. Xavier 27. Marquette Andy Katz is the one national reporter/pundit that has been consistently really high on the Hoyas this off-season.

I get that, but like I said they already assisted on most of their baskets as it is and a PG can get you the ball in a good spot, but he can't make that shot for you and Providence struggles to put the ball in the hoop even un-guarded(at the FT line). And Pimpkins 28% from 3 isn't going to help the cause. They struggled so much last season because they couldn't get clean looks. A good PG can open the floor for teammates, create space, collapse the defense by getting into the key, make passes to teammates that don't even realize their open, get easy baskets, etc. I get that Ackinjo & McClung got fans giddy causing short memories, but there was a time before last year when Hoyas new for half a decade what it was like not to have high level PG play and how hard it was to win games.... Here’s providence’s Ortg the last few years: 2019: 164th 2018(carwright):100th 2017 (Cartwright):101st 2016(Dunn):92nd So providence offense has been bad for a while now even with these great point guards

By that measurement a good PG in Cooley's system is worth 64 spots up in Ortg. That kind of jump will help you win at least a handful of games which is the difference in an NIT bid vs NCAA tournament appearance. At least it has been the last 6 years.
