With the exception of the position of men's head basketball coach, hasn't it been true that the Hilltop has in fact been a way station to better jobs? Wiese and Nolan have chosen to stay at Georgetown for the long haul, when they very likely could've jumped for jobs in the ACC or at another Big Five school with deeper pockets. They both saw the potential of soccer at Georgetown and are directly responsible for the realization of that potential to where it's possible to win a national title here. Lacrosse, similarly, had two long-timers in Urick and Fried, who could've chased money elsewhere, but chose not to. Having said that, it seems highly likely that there will always be places willing to pay more. I think about Chris Miltenberg, who won a national title at Georgetown, then made his way to Stanford, and is now at UNC (where his salary goes a looooot farther than in Palo Alto).

Wonder about the women's Lax coach . Have no first hand knowledge but it seems like the guy has two other coaching jobs besides Gtwn and underperforms what we should be doing pretty consistently. I would think that Gtwn women Lax should be mostly a top 10 program and periodically in a final four mix at least. We haven't been that good in a while, and don't look to be on an upward trend.

I think Chris (and Colleen) would jump at the chance to come back to Georgetown. If he hadn't moved to NC recently, he might have applied for the head coach job at GU.

Even with more pay I'm surprised Miltenburg left Stanford. I would think that the chance for his kids to go to Stanford at some discount would outweigh whatever pay incr he'd get at UNC + having the best recruits by a lot every year making his job easier.
Also still curious what people think re womens lax coach

I think Chris (and Colleen) would jump at the chance to come back to Georgetown. If he hadn't moved to NC recently, he might have applied for the head coach job at GU. Yeah, it's certainly not impossible that once they've banked enough money, they could make their way back up to these parts, which I know they are fond of (as I think you know, I worked with Colleen at Undergraduate Admissions for a little bit, so I got to know her and to a lesser extent Chris himself. Wonderful humans.). It's also, uh, kinda weird to talk about the personal finances of a coach and their family when you actually know them a bit, at least when they're not making revenue sport uber-0.01%er kind of money. Even with more pay I'm surprised Miltenburg left Stanford. I would think that the chance for his kids to go to Stanford at some discount would outweigh whatever pay incr he'd get at UNC + having the best recruits by a lot every year making his job easier. Lord only knows what admissions preference for the children of employees looks like by that point. Regardless, beyond the cost of living/financial aspect, I would not assume that Stanford gets "the best recruits by a lot every year." In the 2019 Outdoor Track & Field championships, the Stanford men finished fifth behind... champion Texas Tech, Florida, Houston(!), and Georgia. It's alot easier to get athletes admitted to a big state school - even a prestigious one like UNC - than it is to *Stanford.* The Cardinal women, for their part, were not in the Top 10, which was 9 big-time state schools + Southern Cal taking the silver. Also still curious what people think re womens lax coach Yeah, it's a little hard for me to tell what's going on with Ricky & crew. He's a highly-regarded coach - he is the head coach of the Women's National Team, where he has compiled a World Cup record of 15-0-0 with titles in 2013 and 2017, among other accolades. They don't just hand anyone the keys to the national team for the better part of a decade. Also, lest we forget... the Hoyas are the reigning Big East champs! No, really! They won the 2019 Big East tournament title (their first since 2010!) AND won their first round NCAA game against UPenn before tragically falling to 'Cuse on their home turf. So it's not like the program is on a *downswing* per se, even if their regular season records the last few years have been just shades above 500 when it feels like Georgetown should be a top ten team... or at least as well-positioned as the WSOC team is, for instance. All I can say is that women's lacrosse has exploded over the last decade or so, as football schools have looked for more women's sports to provide a Title IX offset to growing football rosters and budgets. And those massive programs often bring with them massive, impressive, top-notch facilities. The Thompson Center should have significantly closed the gap...hey, here's a video of Ricky to that effect! The 'completed' Cooper Field should move the facilities rankings a few more notches up. But as lacrosse continues to grow and become less overwhelmingly Northeast/Mid-Atlantic prep school, Georgetown's traditional reputation/advantage with those schools and demographics will continue to fade in impact. I guess my finishing thought is something Dave Nolan said on a podcast about the differences between Georgetown women's soccer and, say, some of the ACC programs - something that I suspect might also reflect lax as well. Dave basically said that many of the players at those types of programs are effectively in the soccer/athlete bubble at all times. The overlap in their experience with that of an 'average' student is minimal - even their classes are mostly athletes from various teams. By contrast, Dave absolutely does not want his team to be stuck in that kind of bubble. I don't think we're quite at a point yet where the whole "Cura Personalis" concept is an active detriment in women's lacrosse, of all things. But it might be trending in that direction??

Fascinating that she’ll be on the GU staff and a WNBA staff simultaneously (or at least sequentially).

The other basketball head coach isn’t faring much better. Georgetown scores 9 first half points in season ending Big East tournament loss to UConn. James Howard is clearly not the answer.

Is the BET for women just to see who gets second place? Do you just hand the next 10 trophies to UConn?
