Even as I agree that UConn would have taken offers by now for big conferences if they were forthcoming I am sure the Big East will write some pretty tight language to prevent them from bolting to another league.
I always thought the ACC should have taken UConn over BC. UConn has a massive New England fan base, including Boston, and of course dominates NY. Then when Pitt got taken over UConn -and the Big Ten took Rutgers because they thought that gave them the NY market more than UConn - clearly it just wasn't going to happen.
Great news.

I wonder how the BIG EAST will manage the Gavitt games and BIG EAST/BIG 12 Challenge with Uconn return?

Boeheim says it is a good move for UConn and great for the Big East. There are plenty of reasons to dislike him, but he always championed the Conference, and I have little doubt that in private he wishes they were still in the BE.

The insider Chief confirmed the move. He’d been sitting on the info until the story broke.

Boeheim is not the only Jim in the gym. The other one, Jim Calhoun, also supports the idea (no surprise): Hall of Fame coach Jim Calhoun told Hearst Connecticut Media that Herbst asked him his thoughts about it, though he had no idea where things currently stand. Not surprisingly, Calhoun supports the move.www.nhregister.com/uconn/article/Is-UConn-heading-back-to-the-Big-East-14030270.phpPretty certain JT and Coach Ewing support this step too.

Boeheim says it is a good move for UConn and great for the Big East. There are plenty of reasons to dislike him, but he always championed the Conference, and I have little doubt that in private he wishes they were still in the BE. When Syracuse decided to go to the ACC and did not afford Boeheim the courtesy of telling him in advance, 2013 would have been the ideal time for Boeheim to retire and become an elder statesman in the conference along the lines of Bill Raftery. TV appearances, numerous golf tournaments, and watching your two sons play college ball would not be a bad retirement for a 70 year old who's been employed by one school since he graduated in 1966 and whose accomplishment will never be matched at that school. Instead, he couldn't let go. Having reneged on a negotiated retirement by the University, he is that school's Joe Paterno, except Jim was able to slide past Bernie Fine where Joe didn't quite understand the issues with Jerry Sandusky. At 74, what more does he have to prove? Assuming no further scandal comes his way, he has doubled down on the ACC and chosen to be a basketball version of Connie Mack, whose 50 year tenure is only seven years removed from Boeheim's 43 and counting. It was Mack whose later years were cited by author Red Smith as such: "Toward the end he was old and sick and saddened, a figure of forlorn dignity bewildered by the bickering around him as the...monument that he had built crumbled away."

How does this affect the Fox contract? I can't remember the provisions for adding new teams. Is it the same total divided by one more school (would have to doubt that)? A straight proportional bump? An even bigger pot since UConn has a reputation?

An even bigger pot since UConn has a reputation? Fox will pay $4.2mm for each school added. UConn will get all (or most) or that $4.2. IF the BE adds a 12th school, BE would get another $4.2mm or that school ----------- Also, The early winner in UConn’s move will be Fox Sports. The Big East and Fox are in the middle of a 12 year rights deal with CBS sublicensing some games. Not only will Fox benefit from having a basketball school like UConn join, this is also an opportunity for Fox to show more women’s college basketball now that they will have one of the best and most popular teams in the country at their disposal.awfulannouncing.com/fox/uconns-impending-move-to-the-big-east-is-a-big-win-for-fox-not-so-much-for-espn.html

Assuming, hypothetically, that the conference wanted to add a 12th team, who would you want that team to be?

Assuming, hypothetically, that the conference wanted to add a 12th team, who would you want that team to be? Notre Dame. Already an independent in football and a powerhouse women’s program plus very strong in soccer, and several other sports. Also they owe the BE for their betrayal a few years ago.

Notre Dame would be great, but they're contractually obligated to join the ACC if they decide to give up its independence. Notre Dame will continue to get the best of both worlds from the ACC through at least 2037.

I don't care what he thinks about in private. He's a traitor to the conference and I wish him nothing but failure.
