Big East's region now includes the Midwest. Holmgren's from Minneapolis, which is where Sibley is from before going to Oak Hill.

I consider recruiting a sales process, and you have to spend some time qualifying your prospects. I believe coach and his staff do that. Patrick was an out of the box player. His game in the pros was quite different than what Big John allowed him to do. Yes, because the reach of the Big East is wide, why not recruit Chet? He has already taken an unofficial visit. He has some interest.

If this young man shows any interest, you recruit this young man, otherwise you should no longer call yourself recruiter.

Hope against despair, Chet would be a great acquisition. Wonderful things have happened for Gtown in its history. We're due for an out of the blue blessing!

CE: What schools do you feel like have done a good job of staying in touch with you of late and has made you a priority?
CH: Definitely, Minnesota, Gonzaga, Georgetown, Memphis, UNC, Ohio State and then one or two others.
CE: Were you hoping you take any official visits this spring, that was until the coronavirus wiped things out?
CH: I didn’t have any officially set up but I was planning on doing some, especially since I had more free time compared to the high school season.
CE: Who were you trying to see? Anyone specifically?
CH: I don’t know exactly what schools it would have been but I definitely am going to try and see Memphis, UNC, and get out to Georgetown again. From there, I would have figured out next year later on.

But the rest of it (Georgetown "again") still sounds encouraging.

A class of Collins, Mutombo, and Holmgren would certainly help to quiet our current restlessness.

Stop recruiting top 20 players. This isn’t the law of averages; the program will not land a kid like this in the current state.

I am fine recruiting top guys, provided it's not taking resources from higher percentage guys. It shouldn't be the foundation of a recruiting strategy, but is a fine supplemental piece with an asymmetric risk/reward. At worst its good marketing being in kids top 10/8/5. With Chet specifically, I am cautiously optimistic. No real info, but reading the tea leaves, in between the lines of his comments throughout the process, he seems genuinely interested and likes the fit with Pat.
