As if there were not plenty, he wants to trademark the name “Tom Terrific”.
That this news comes shortly after the announcement that the real Tom Terrific has to withdraw from public life due to dementia makes this ham-handed move even more Editedbaggy.

For those of us of a certain age, the name "Tom Terrific" can only refer to George Thomas Seaver. No amount of marketing nor trademark activity by Tom Brady will ever change that. The sad reality is that those who were not fortunate enough to watch Seaver pitch will never understand why this is such a big deal to those of us who had the opportunity.
And no, I'll never forgive Dick Young and M. Donald Grant for running him out of town in 1976. . .and I could never appreciate anything that Pat Zachry, Doug Flynn, Steve Henderson and Dan Norman ever did for the Mets when they came over from Cincinnati in exchange.

Amen. But it was 1977.

Duly noted.
I was in a bad place. 1409 37th Street N.W. was filled with Yankees fans, except for me. It blurs together after a while....

As if it weren’t tough enough to be a Met fan as the Yankees returned to glory, we had to watch the greatest player ever to wear the uniform get shipped away for four ham and eggers...

Tom Brady is the Barry Bonds of the NFL. Great, but not beloved.

Tom Brady is the Barry Bonds of the NFL. Great, but not beloved. Good comp - but Bonds never wanted to be beloved. He saw thru all the BS based on how he saw Mays and his father treated by the media. Tom, OTOH, is frankly just trying too hard.

Also, as best we know, Tom didn't roid up. And in my view he has never been the a-hole that Barry Bonds was on a regular basis (current lame move aside).

I'm a Yankees fan. Tom Terrific is Mr. Seaver. Period. Full stop.

Brady’s excuse for this one is priceless. He wanted to trademark the name so no one could call him “Tom Terrific”. You would think with all these years under Belichick he would be better at concocting a story.

Brady’s excuse for this one is priceless. He wanted to trademark the name so no one could call him “Tom Terrific”. You would think with all these years under Belichick he would be better at concocting a story. This verbal gymnastics recalls when Jay Leno, who usurped the Tonight Show from Conan O'Brien, told viewers not to blame Conan. To which David Letterman said, "But Jay, no one is blaming Conan..." And no one is going to call Brady the nickname of a another athlete. So while he's at it, why not trademark The Iron Horse, The Big Train, and The Yankee Clipper?

I was absolutely heartbroken, I tell you. Heartbroken.
Doesn't exactly sound like Hoodie Bill will be begging Tom to return to Foxboro, either.
