UNC has Jeremiah Francis, Anthony Harris, Caleb Love & Davis at the lead guard spot now.. In my view Davis has a very good shot at a lot of playing time next season seeing that he’s easily the best shooter in that group... What about Anthony? All indications are he'll declare for the NBA after the season is over...

Oh well, gotta move on. Hopefully Coach Ewing will have a plan in place, to secure a good PG commitment soon.

Man guess you can't bet against Roy.. I honestly didn't think they would fall for the UNC bs.. I really don't think it was a push/all out recruitment by Roy but more of Davis thinking "he deserved" to be recruited by and play for a "Blue Blood". Roy Williams didn't even start recruiting Davis himself until late in the process...

We must win to make a difference in how the team, University and coaching is perceived!! It starts at our first game. We must kick @$$ and take names and look well-coached!!

I really don't think it was a push/all out recruitment by Roy but more of Davis thinking "he deserved" to be recruited by and play fire a "Blue Blood". Roy Williams didn't even start recruiting Davis himself until late in the process... I think his use of the phrase "I deserve this" probably has a lot to do with folks implying he's not good enough for UNC... There's been a lot of "he'll get recruited over" or "he's not one of their top choices" posts on message boards that I'm sure he's read or folks close to him have... Given what the UNC guard situation will more than likely be next season do you think he won't be able to compete with that group? From what I've seen of him he should be fine...

Winning changes a lot of things. It stinks to lose out on RJ, but Coach was on him early and hard. Speaks well to his player evaluations. Let's find a diamond in the rough in the spring.

"I picked UNC because I felt like it was the right situation for me to achieve my goals," Davis told ESPN. "It's a family-oriented program that has a winning tradition. Also, it's a university that is very competitive and I wanted a chance to compete with the best of the best because I felt like I deserved it. The coaching staff is down to earth and direct in their approach and they're clear about the kids who they recruit to their program. The coaching staff of UNC looks out for their players and takes care of them." The "I deserve this" rubs me the wrong way. Was planning on rooting for the kid, now I am hoping he becomes Seventh Woods.

Good luck to RJ and let's worry about what we can control, finding a great, better, player to come join our team

I don't follow recruiting as closely as others but it's a snapshot of where the program is. If you're a 17 or 18 year old player, Georgetown doesn't have a contemporary reputation and isn't as relevant to their life. They grew up watching UNC in the Final Four (2008, 2009, 2016, 2017) and playing deep into March and that's why he isn't going to Pitt, either.

Bet they were partly recruiting Davis as a way to stay in it with Griffin.

I disagree with your take on "I deserve this". If it was about people doubting him, he could have said I have earned this. In terms of getting playing time next season, it will completely depend on his ability to make shots. If he's not making shots, they will have other better options at all the other aspects. He won't be one of the best playmakers, quickest, athletic, or physical guards in their backcourt. Arguably he will be on the lower scale of options on the UNC roster in those aspects. I wonder how much time he will get at UNC. He passed up opportunities to start/play 20+ minutes a game at all his other options to play less, maybe a lot less at UNC. I also question whether he will ever be allowed to develop & showcase all his skills at UNC in their crowed backcourt. Will Coach Williams allow him to play through the inevitable mistakes Davis is going to make or is he going to have a short hook in a crowded backcourt. Finally how soon before UNC possibly recruits over him. The ESPN article it self hints that UNC is in the process of doing that in his same class. They already have Love, and they're still recruiting Cade Cunningham, Zaire Williams, and Bryce Thompson. Not to mention who they bring in next year...

I always thought that once UNC entered the ring, if we were going to lose, it was going to be to them. The blue bloods, once they come a knockin', usually get their guy.
Move on to the next.
We need to win and make the NCAAs consistently the next couple of seasons in order to compete with likes of UNC for talent like RJ.

Once he busted out the hats, the .1% chance we had was officially extinguished. Attachment DeletedOnce I saw the placement of the hats with UNC directly in front of him, I turned the feed off.

Here's the direct quote(20-second mark) where he talks about folks doubting him as his motivation... He definitely has to hit shots but I don't see any reason he's going to stop being productive now... I can easily see him having a career similar to Berry or Paige did while at UNC...

I don't see the correlation of "I deserve this" and going to UNC. It almost has an elitist tone and by contrast it feels like it says the other programs are beneath me. I'll give him a pass just because he's 18 and inexperienced in front of media. It would have come across much better saying "I earned this".... Watching the interview just correlates what I thought from the article that to Davis, it's about the stage that he thinks UNC will provide and not about the opportunity. Nothing Georgetown or the other programs could do because he's enthralled with the stage and atmosphere. The end of the interview Davis suggest that Coach Williams solidified his decision by stating your "good enough to go here". Not a jump on the table ringing endorsement. Just Okay, is not okay... While he could have a college career similar to Berry or Paige (is that really the bar he's aiming for?), He could also end up with a career more inclined with Nate Britt, Kenny Williams or in the worst case scenario 7th Woods. I can make a strong case that Berry & Paige were only allowed to thrive over four years at UNC because of the academic fraud debacle that was hanging over the program/schools heads during that period. If it wasn't for that, UNC would have recruited over them during their time on campus ala Nate Britt, Kenny Williams & 7th Woods. RJ Davis isn't going to be given that cloud cover. He might not even get it in this class if Cunningham, Williams or Thompson decide to go to UNC. I am a firm believer that the Top 5 prospects can play anywhere in the country. Outside of them, the rest of the recruits, fit, need, and development are vital to their success. One fact this is non debatable is that Davis would have a bigger role Day 1 at any of the other 3 programs and they would be more invested in his long term success...

You can look at it as elitist if you want to but we all know UNC is at least a cut above Pitt, Marquette & Gtown. He's being honest in saying he wants to play on the biggest stage, I don't see why UNC can't bring both the stage and the opportunity for him... Davis 1st stated that Coach Willimas "believes in him" before he said that he could play there. There are 4 parts to the interview I posted earlier... I have no idea what he's aiming for career-wise but both Paige & Berry had very good college careers both in the stats column & the wins column... Not sure how you can make a case against kids that led UNC to final fours & a championship, that would be a big leap in my view...

Do you disagree with my points regarding possibly being recruited over, or the fact that he would have a bigger role at the other three options? Paige & Berry were allotted the opportunity to develop and shine at UNC primarily because of the academic scandal which limited UNC's recruiting reach and took them out of play for O & D prospects. Davis won't be given that type of cover. I'm not saying he can't be a big time college player, I'm saying he won't be given the opportunity to play through mistakes & develop on the court like he would have at the other options. For those reasons, I'm curious about the long-term fit and what his role will ultimately be? Good luck to Davis, except against BIG EAST teams.
