Syracuse has done well selling an annoying coach and cold winters. Although, including Mrs. Fine’s talents will sway any recruit. 😘

I continue to wonder how Syracuse gets players with NBA aspirations. They play a style defensively that not only doesn't prepare you but hinders your NBA aspirations...

I think it comes down to whether RJ returns for an unofficial visit after Carolina as he indicated he planned to do...he evidently had a great first/official visit and bonded well with both the coaches and players...he's good enough to get substantial playing time where ever he goes, as "the man" from the getgo at Pitt or Marquette or as a high minutes guy as part of a 3 guard offense at Georgetown (arguably with not quite as much pressure as a freshman to be a super star right out of the box, yet still a major contributor...I'm not sure that would be the case with the Love commit at Carolina/and he may feel a little slighted by that situation)...L think if he's mature enough to see the total package that Georgetown offers-not just short term, but long term as well...and he sees the talent and growth trajectory of the team and what a meaningful part he can play in that, our chances are good...gotta come back and visit the Hilltop again.

I had told my parents I had no interest in Georgetown when we decided to do an east coast college tour, but they said we'll be going right past it, let's check it out. And from the moment we arrived in DC and especially when we stepped on that campus, it enchanted me and there was nowhere else I was going to go. True story. So I can get with the history and the power of UNC, why you'd go there, but Marquette (or Pitt) over Georgetown makes absolutely no sense to me. But I obviously don't think about these things like basketball prospects do. That said, thinking through all the basketball only reasons, I still think this is an easy choice for Georgetown. Might be those Hoya Saxa tinted glasses I wear though. The world looks so much better in Blue & Gray. I can relate to this story in many ways, but what enchanted you and I about Georgetown is by definition going to be different. We weren't looking to play basketball, we weren't looking to get on TV, we weren't looking to play basketball in March. While I agree that I think there's no better place to go to college (though there are of course great places elsewhere), it's easy to see why basketball focused guys might go elsewhere. I agree Marquette should be a tougher sell, but when you look at UNC, a Hall of Fame coach, their consistent top 25 performance, and NCAA performances, it's easy to see why recruits pick them (plus, fake class does not hurt in many instances). If Ewing can get us to March and the second weekend a few years in a row, our recruiting will heavily pick up, just as JT3's did in the mid-2000s. Win, and everyone wants to come, regardless of campus, facilities, etc.

How does that prepare them to guard/defend one on one & team man to man defense in the NBA? History has shown that Syracuse has produced some good defenders over the last 20 years...?

or as a high minutes guy as part of a 3 guard offense at Georgetown (arguably with not quite as much pressure as a freshman to be a super star right out of the box, yet still a major contributor... Can we stop with this 3 guard nonsense to justify why RJ should come here. Do you really think we are going to roll out a 5’11, 5’11, 6’2 lineup and expect to compete in the BE. I am not saying RJ wouldn’t get plenty of minutes but it wouldn’t be as a part of a 3 guard lineup.

If he doesn't visit Georgetown again after the North Carolina visit this weekend, I don't see him coming.

If he visits, it’s a good sign. If he doesn’t, I see it a bit more as neutral. He is familiar with our program.

RJ and Juggy/Myron can be 1st off the bench and be in a smaller lineup with James/Mac, Josh/Morko and Qudus....I personally don't think Pat is selling a 3 guard offense. I think he is selling a rotating guard scheme where RJ will get to earn PT....

The one thing I have learned is that we can't predict what these young people are going to do any more than what a random person could predict what we would do. You all make compelling arguments, but these kids are going to make decisions that will leave many to scratch their heads. Especially the bigs, but I digress.
I can't wait for Coach to land another recruit and for the season to start. I am getting a little Editeded with how it seems that everyone is picking us to finish sixth or worse. But then I think these so called experts have no more of a crystal ball than I do.

If the kid is worried about Mac & Akinjo who were ranked way behind him in their respective class, then his head isn't screwed on right. You are going to have to compete for minutes at every DI school. Nobody knows what the roster composition will look like of a team at this stage the following year with early entries, grad transfers in and regular transfers out. What WoJo has shown is his guards can get buckets but they don't win at a high level under him. The die is cast with him in my opinion. For Pitt, they have been a bottom feeding team for awhile in the ACC (just like us in the BE) so he is gambling on a new coach. Similar with us but I think our tradition and path to success are quicker & higher than Pitt. At UNC, they have had success with guards and play at a fast pace. They also will recruit over you as was the case with Seventh Woods, Ron Curry (name?) and they have the big time following & tradition. He has a couple of paths here that are all distinct depending on what he values.
Regardless I see a lot of minutes for him on our roster in year one with Allen & Mosely graduating. Furthermore I see a more viable long term path for him over three years than the other schools we are competing against. Lastly, his ability to play pro ball & get a great education are really strong at GU. Now if he doesn't want to go to real classes than UNC is a lock.

LA...I didn't mean by 3 guard offense that the 3 players would be on the court at the same time (except for possibly 5-10 mns in rare matchup situations)...I meant the 3 players rotating in the two guard positions...each of the current guards would get their 25-30 mns a game at the 1 and 2, and RJ would get his from the 1 and 2 as he can play either. The really competitive, higher ranked teams will normally have that kind of rotation/depth, as opposed to a significant drop off after the starters. I can also see RJ starting (better shooter) and Mac coming off the bench as a catalyst/stimulator to fire things up...

RJ is a very fine prospect, but he's not a supreme talent, not a one-and-done type. He should be looking for the program that will best develop him for the long-term and prepare him for life. Learning at the hands of PE, under-studying Mackinjo for 1 year, and probably getting the keys to the Ferrari as a sophomore, is about as good a development glide path as he can find. I hope his hoops visions are not delusional, and he picks the best school for him long-term. Mom knows best in this regard.
Is Wojo even staying at Marquette? He couldn't retain their second and third best players this off-season. Pitt? C'mon. We should win this unless the blue blood UNC vibe simply overwhelms RJ and his parents (possible).

Sure feels like we're in 4th here. If somehow he ends up visiting again, different story. But barring that happening unexpectedly, probably time to prepare ourselves for this not going our way.
Hope we still have a reasonable shot at some of the other lead/combo guards in '20. Farrakhan's recruitment has been virtually silent, and hopefully we're not too late on a kid like Moore. Patrick has had a nice little stretch with Wahab, Gardner out of nowhere and then Williams, but it feels like it's been a long time since we landed a guard. I expect it to get easier as James and Mac develop further and command more national attention, but for the time being it's still a battle.
