Maybe Ewing is just bad at this job?

Someone with claimed reliable information said that we had not been pushing for him recently. Bottom line is that we do not (and probably never will) know the true dynamics and facts behind the various recruitments. That's just not true. Allen himself a little over a month ago said, "Coach Ewing has probably been on me the longest and hardest. He gave me my first big offer so I really respect the loyalty. He is trying to rebuild the Georgetown program and get to where they were when he was playing there. I like the style of play and the coaching staff, they seem really cool." We truly don't know what went on there. The term "longest and hardest" alone does not mean he was a priority for GU in the end -- it just means as compared to other schools at that point in time. Plus, we do not know if Colorado came in and pushed harder than GU in the last month, to close it, and whether we backed off in the end. Again, the bottom line is that we do not -- and likely never will know -- the full story with any of these recruits. I am moving my focus on those that are on the team, which is all that matters in the end. They need and deserve our support, in my opinion.

Our recruiting is really bad. It's not one recruitment. Misses happen. But the totality of it all and the lack of high major talents is inexcusable.

Chasing 5*'s like Aminu Mohammed so we can be the 1980's Susan Lucci of 5*s (always on the list, never a winner) probably contributes to us losing out on 4* and 3*.

Allen isn't as good as his ranking. He is also not so bad that we pull off in hopes that the rest of the class will be better and he wasn't worthy of a spot if that is what happened. He could have provided a good start to the class. On to the next one. There are plenty of irons in the fire.

"Quincy Allen found himself just looking for an opportunity. The transfer small forward decided James Madison was the best place to find it... Heading into his junior season in 2019, Allen was on pace to become a McDonald’s All-American, ranked in the Top 25 of his class by 247Sports and Rivals.com. But an injury kept him all the floor for large chunks of his junior year. Then COVID forced the cancellation of the AAU season in 2020. As a senior, Allen averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds, but Maret played just 12 games while still dealing with COVID-19 restrictions. Still, he graduated as a four-star prospect with offers from the likes of Michigan, Georgetown, North Carolina State, Miami, and several other high-major programs before heading to Colorado, where he was immediately sidelined with a hip injury that required surgery and led to a redshirt year in 2021-22... Part of the fresh start for Allen includes returning to the East Coast, about two hours from home at JMU, where there are familiar faces in the JMU program. Allen previously knew JMU assistant Xavier Joyner through their shared connection to the Team Takeover AAU program. Allen is also friendly with JMU’s rising sophomore center Jerrell Roberson, another DC-area product who played for Team Takeover. But despite the setbacks, Allen had plenty of options once he hit the transfer portal. He officially visited Pepperdine and was recruited heavily again by Georgetown along with SMU, George Washington, George Mason, and UNLV." www.nvdaily.com/nvdaily/allen-looking-for-fresh-start-at-jmu/article_db9ac6bc-0422-57ec-a94e-af32eb6f967d.html

I never like the "maybe he's not that good anyway" sour grapes. If he's not that good, and he still doesn't want to come, what does it say about us that "Coach Ewing has probably been on me the longest and hardest"? Eh, normally I agree but people are acting like he was a make or break recruit in the comments. The poster had been saying the same thing from jump and sees most of these local kids. Yep. Was always really "meh" for me.
