Kentucky is the model for a non-academic state school willing to field a winning basketball program at all costs, i.e., bending rules. Memphis, Arizona, LSU and others are just going down the same path. Big upside in $$$ and little downside in terms of NCAA sanctions. Cheat to thrive. Nobody cheats (in basketball) like UNC-CHeat, though.

And we will all grow old waiting for the NCAA to grow a pair and enforce its rules.

Why do people think Memphis is cheating Memphis let Calipari run the show and ultimately get their 2008 Final Four erased off the books.

Personally, I don't necessarily think they are, but I wouldn't be shocked (can't be shocked no matter what nowadays)
Most of the signings make sense when broken down. Wiseman, Baugh, and Dandrige all from Memphis and have a relationship with Penny.
Lester chose Memphis for whatever reason, but from the jump, there was a good chance that wherever he went, Achiuwa would follow.
Boogie and Jeffries were both decommits and saw a team with potential that they could get immediate PT with
When your first signing is the #1 player in America, other guys are automatically intrigued and want to join

How can this be with the amount of scholarships available?

Why do people think Memphis is cheating Memphis let Calipari run the show and ultimately get their 2008 Final Four erased off the books. Calipari is actually their second-most crooked coach with a vacated Final Four which is extremely difficult to do for multiple reasons.

A walking crime wave when it was Memphis State.

That is a good draw. At home against a team that will probably have a big turnout due to proximity of their alumni base. Should be a solid team to play and get that W!

Xavier and St. John's get byes this year from the Big East. This means that Xavier will play in 2020, 2021, and 2022 (same with Butler who has already had two byes). This will be Michigan St's first appearance and they will play in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Last season Penn St had a NET Ranking of 49, a KenPom Ranking of 43, a RPI Ranking of 91, and a 14-18 record overall.

Can't imagine they are going to be too good next year having lost Bolton and Reaves. They usually play tough at home and win a couple games they shouldn't but I can;t see them posing much threat on the road. Hopefully the Big10 is as strong next year and their numbers stay artificially propped up.

Better than no Gavitt game, and better than some of the options. Probably a good game for the aforementioned reasons of decent (if not great) RPI and a big fan turnout.
Their RPI last season was higher than all but one of our OOC opponents (Cuse and Liberty). So it looks like a Quadrant 2 or 3 game, depending on whether PSU can improve on last year's results.

We've got enough "good" games. I don't think we need a tougher schedule than the one already planned.

Hoping for one more solid team on the schedule. As of now, it's relatively dependent on getting Duke in the 2K Classic at some point, and ideally Texas too. It's an upgrade as of now, but still has room to get better. I like adding Oklahoma State and Penn State and hope for one more. Just another team so if we don't get Duke, it's still a good schedule. Also hoping for something with Maryland, in the near future or this season, killing two birds with one stone.

Lamar Stevens is a load.....
