Republican Jennifer Rubin: This is what comes from electing someone emotionally and intellectually incapable of seeing beyond his own emotional needs or understanding the moral authority a normal president enjoys by fulfilling the role of head of state. Trump’s lack of decency, civility and respect for others’ accomplishments prompt him to attack Americans (especially minorities) who disagree with him; in turn, Trump’s conduct provokes honorable people to shun the president. www.washingtonpost.com/news/opinions/wp/2018/08/28/heres-why-trump-cant-perform-his-job/?utm_term=.716ea83642e2In addition, he wrongly told evangelical leaders that he repealed a law preventing them from conducting politics from the pulpit — and then asks them to behave in such a fashion that likely runs afoul of the rules for non-exempt organizations. “(Trump also erroneously claimed Monday that he had done away with the Johnson Amendment, which he described to the evangelical leaders as a ‘disaster for you,’ according to the NBC report. The provision bars religious institutions and other tax-exempt organizations from endorsing political candidates.”) Trump seems not to know that “repeal of the Johnson Amendment was ultimately not included in last year’s Republican tax bill. While Trump signed an executive order aimed at making it easier for churches to take part in politics, an act of Congress would be required to repeal the provision itself.” The evangelical leaders shouldn’t take tax advice from the president. www.washingtonpost.com/news/opinions/wp/2018/08/29/how-many-norms-can-trump-and-evangelical-leaders-break-in-one-meeting/?utm_term=.4ad1a27b8cba

Max Boot - former Republican: But not nearly as a big a blow as Cohen’s admission under oath that he violated federal campaign laws by arranging illicit payments to adult-film star Stormy Daniels and Playboy playmate Karen McDougal “in coordination with and at the direction of a candidate for federal office.” For the first time since Watergate, the president is now an alleged co-conspirator in the commission of a federal crime. As Cohen’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, said, his client “testified under oath that Donald Trump directed him to commit a crime by making payments to two women for the principal purpose of influencing an election. If those payments were a crime for Cohen, then why wouldn’t they be a crime for Donald Trump?” www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/global-opinions/trump-is-now-an-illegitimate-president/2018/08/22/d1c9271c-a613-11e8-97ce-cc9042272f07_story.html?utm_term=.6ec759a8d977

Guess this thread has become an endless array of quotes from that totally unbiased Wash Post. At some point, you and a bunch of others need to recognize that it's not bias to report the truth. Paying off pornstars is a scandal (at least, Republicans used to think this kind of thing was a scandal). Obstruction of justice by the President is a scandal (at least, Republicans used to think this kind of thing was a scandal). Funny how you never seem to remember that the "biased" Washington Post and New York Times were ALL OVER the stories about Hillary's emails leading up to the election. You want to quote Fox News here? The home of made-up scandals fluffed up by the President? Knock yourself out.

So I repeat that this thread has morphed into an endless array of WP quotes. I said nothing about whether true facts were revealed. Only a comment that the source being quoted is not unbiased. Some posters must jump out of bed each morn and enjoy their coffee and Washington Post nourishment.

Your perception of bias appears to be based on what you agree with vs what happens to be true or false... CSN does good work, and you've linked their stuff before, but Is Wapo a more trusted and reliable news source than CSN?

Americans are still struggling, despite the fact that the economy is near full employment, according to CBS News. Their study found that 39.4 percent of adults between 18 and 64 years old experienced at least one type of material hardship in 2017, meaning that they struggled to pay for food, health care, housing and/or utilities. While the researchers at the Urban Institute had expected to find disproportionate economic hardships among poor Americans, they were surprised that so many middle-class Americans have also struggled with meeting basic needs.

Joe Walsh? You can't take that too seriously, he's probably off on a rocky mountain high somewhere. Oh, wait... Just want to note that today Mike Pence basically said that violence doesn't mean violence.

Has he suggested the facts in any of the WaPo articles are factually inaccurate? Has he argued any contrary opinion supported by facts to rebut the opinions of the cited Republicans or former Republicans? Nope,he merely states in a conclusory manner that the messenger is biased.

If the stories themselves are biased, please do point that out. I'm not sure there's a poster here that wouldn't welcome that. If it's the organization that is biased but the articles themselves are fair and accurate, what's your point?

It's baffling to me that we still use the "indicators" that we do to judge the health of the economy. They're not indicative of the economy for your typical citizen. The Dow hitting a new high very rarely means that people are taking more home in their paychecks and, for a large majority of the country, they don't have enough in the way of savings or investments to be affected. Employment has always been an interesting one because it doesn't mean that much unless unemployment is high. GDP? Now we're really getting into some amorphous territory.
