I get the disconnect now, you're arguing that he won't be able to play next semester, not that he's not allowed to go there and RS for the spring semester on his own dime? Is that correct? Yes. And again, maybe he could compete next semester, it would just take some serious loop holing and quick NCAA turnaround which I don't think there is enough time for realistically. I don't think there's anyway he plays next semester, that's why I kept bringing up what the kid at St. John's is doing next semester since they're out of scholarships... So if he doesn't play, he can pay his own way to be part of the program right?

Probably, the speculation amongst UConn fans is that he will in fact be playing next semester though, which is what I was responding to.

To everyone’s surprise, that period came and went without a decision. Instead there was a new headline, that Akok was considering a jump to the 2019 NBA Draft. That news came just days before the National Prep Showcase and with more than half of the NBA franchises already credentialed to get a look at Brewster Academy guard Jalen Lecque, it was a quick way to get evaluated by the NBA masses.
Unfortunately, his performance in New Haven didn’t warrant further NBA attention. He had six points and 3 rebounds in 24 minutes of action in an overtime win over Sunrise Christian and identical stats a day later in 20 minutes against CBD Montverde.
Scouts didn’t get to see a game that is, in many ways, tailored to the modern NBA game with his size, length, and ability to both stretch the floor with his shooting range and also protect the rim with bouncy athleticism on the defensive end. Instead, they saw a player who, for whatever reason, wasn’t fully engaged and displayed a questionable motor, despite professional scouts there to see him.

The more we read about this young man the more we see red flags.

Maybe I had missed some stuff on Akok, and only watched his highlights, but I never heard the "wasn’t fully engaged and displayed a questionable motor" comments before about him. Not sure if it was just one event and maybe he was injured or something. The off court things of late are concerning, but those comments may be even more of a red flag.

It was previously mentioned in other articles that he was playing through pain (knee) in that event. He hurt his knee in a previous tournament in the Bahamas...

Brief Akok Akok mention begins at the 27:17 mark.
“A lot of people believe that Connecticut may be the leader there. Georgetown is certainly deep involved.”

Fine with me. As long as he didn't go to another BE school or SUcks. Feel like he'd have messed with the chemistry trying to be built this late in the game. Would be nice if Hoyas could find a way to get Yurt eligible in 2nd half.

Now lets get Qudus Wahab and play three freshman Bigs at PF/C next year with Yurt7 playing C, this will lock our front court!

It’s looking more and more like we are striking out with our priority recruits. A once promising class with thoughts of Stewart, Whitney, Akok, et al has left us only with two unheralded centers needing refinement and bulk.
On one hand I like that the staff has identified guys who have shot up the rankings after our involvement, as it shows a good eye for talent. But it also has us competing with the big boys and frankly we are swimming a little over our head at that level.
Another late signing period coup will be needed to save face here. By choice or by necessity, it’s how the last two classes have been built, but I wouldn’t bank on this as a sustainable long term strategy.

Did he get the required SAT score or is UConn having someone else sit for the exam in the event that he doesn’t?
