Ryan Mutombo of Team Forrest is the son of retired NBA great Dikembe Mutombo. This past weekend versus the Texas Playmakerz 16U I saw flashes of his dad in the 2021 big man. Mutombo blocked shots, rebounded and finished plays at a high rate around the basket. He has a chance to be a really sought after prospect if he continues to show that he can affect the game more on a consistent basis. www.prephoops.com/2019/07/adidas-silver-nationals-championships-takeaways/

Ryan Mutombo – Lovette – (Atlanta, Ga) – 2021 When searching for quality big men in the 2021 class, Mutombo fits the mold. He’s fundamentally sound, has good length, and has shown improvement in his offensive game just since the summer live periods. Mutombo played well out of the post connecting on a few nice step back jumpers showing his offensive growth. His shooting touch is still soft and he finds the backboard more times than not around the rim which is a plus. Mutombo has good mobility and can guard in limited space, but does a good job on the backboard wrangling rebounds and clearing space. ontheradarhoops.com/otrhoopsreport-super-64-notebook-september-12-2020/

I assume (AND HOPE!!!) that an offer from the Hoyas is implicit here??? Might be a Trey Mourning type situation. Dikembe has made it clear that Ryan would be attending G-town. Obviously sometimes kids will rebel but fortunately Pat has us as an attractive place ontop of the connections.

Good for him. I haven't seen him play much and I've wondered about his talent level. An ACC offer is pretty legit.

Mutombo, son of Hawks great Dikembe Mutombo, announced his scholarship offer Tuesday from his Twitter account. Mutombo, a junior at Lovett, stands 7-foot and could have a couple of more inches to grow. His father, who is one of two players in NBA history to win NBA defensive player of the year four times (twice with the Hawks), is 7-2. “He’s a complete kid, and he’s going to really sneak up on people’s radar,” said James Forrest, Mutombo’s AAU coach and a former Yellow Jackets star. Recruiting services such as 247Sports and Rivals do not have him ranked, but college coaches are well aware of him. North Carolina, Virginia, Florida State and Wake Forest have already made plans to see him work out, Forrest said. www.ajc.com/sports/college/ryan-mutombo-son-hawks-great-receives-offer-from-georgia-tech/ng0eGtVRvQkv9HEKCy5zLM/#

Too Bad - It seems like maybe he won't listen to his father?

Well that sucks. Maybe his dad’s legacy should play zero factor in our support of him.

I’m assuming he’s responding to the recent Casual Hoya podcast. They had a guest from HoopSeen in Georgia who kept saying that if Georgetown offered he would go there, which has made some schools back away from recruiting him too hard. Before people jump on Casual Hoya/Bobby Bancroft, all he does is ask questions about Ryan Mutombo and it was the guest that answered with lots of assumptions.

Kind of reminds me of Pat Ewing Jr. and his process of not wanting to initially follow his pops footsteps...
Young people of that age want their own experiences and not do what many expect. Sometimes they realize it's not a big deal to follow their parents footsteps. Other times they run as far from it as possible. Either way, I'll still be cheering for him.
We will see how this all shakes out...

Kind of reminds me of Pat Ewing Jr. and his process of not wanting to initially follow his pops footsteps... It’s different. Jr. didn’t want to play for Esh.

I always wondered how there would be room for him given Wahab, Tim and Wilson will be there for his first two years and we’d probably try to add another highly ranked Center in the 2021/2022 class. Doesn’t feel like much room in the roster.
