Given how strongly the Georgetown "family" aspect of the program is, we really need to bring in Mutombo. As others have said, Ewing Jr.'s interview gives a lot of insight as to why somebody like Ryan might not want to play Georgetown. But, here's the bottom line: it's easier to follow in your father's footsteps when that involves joining a winning team. Does it shock anybody that Ewing Jr. picked Indiana at a time when Georgetown was terrible? The situations are actually pretty analogous, in that Esherick would have been recruiting Ewing Jr. at a time when the program was struggling big time. Similarly, Ewing is recruiting Mutombo after a tumultuous and poor season. I hope I am wrong, but if Mutombo keeps rising in the rankings, and Georgetown has a bad season again, I think getting a commitment from Mutombo is going to be an uphill battle (my pure speculation, for the record, I have no inside information). Very good analysis.

I don't remember exactly and cannot check right now, but wasn't there something about not wanting to play for Esh, but once JT3 came, he transferred?

Agree with 2003. I think b&g's post was just a heads up to those who just assume we will get Ryan because of the connections, and to stave off any gloom and doom posts if Ryan decides there is a better fit. He is an intelligent young man (would expect nothing less) who will obtain and consider all relevant information before deciding what works best for him.

New gameplay with Ryan (He's number 21 in white). Generally like what I see here. Think there's a bit more for him to go till his current level of play matches with his rank, but you can see he clearly has a lot of potential on both sides of the court. He has solid shot blocking instincts like his dad. He has a decent looking stroke from mid-range (though it didn't hit much this game), and he cleans the ball up well under the rim. I think there is a bit of Omer to his game- not quite as smooth, and probably could go up stronger at times, but he seems skilled and plays high IQ ball.

in the video, he doesn't seem the focus of this team... kinda ignored...didn't see enough early to make me want to watch more.

I have spoke to Deke and he made it clear that his son is his own man. If he’s a Hoya it’s because Ryan wants to become a Hoya.

It would be a shame if Ryan ended up at Georgetown because he was pressured to or was told to do so. I'd MUCH rather he choose Georgetown because it felt right. Regardless of wherever he chooses, Ryan is family. I wish him the best.

Based off of what unseen in a few videos, Deikembe can't be too happy with how his son is getting use on this new aau team. Guards dribbling with their heads down and of control. Don't throw the ball into the list post. Don't see this lasting if things don't change.

Love the way at the very end of the Blockin’ video he blocks the shot and then instinctively looks up the court for a fast break opportunity. It cut off before you could see what happens, but it was a clear and immediate transfer of focus on his part.

basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/wednesday-s-leftovers-mason-miller-ryan-mutombo-volsI am going to stick with Georgetown, but my confidence is beginning to wane with Ryan Mutombo . It had seemed that it was a slam dunk for the Hoyas with the prospect with exceptional bloodlines, but it doesn’t appear that Mutombo is willing to end his recruitment soon, which should allow ample time for others to work their way into contention. Of course, there is a solid connection between Patrick Ewing and Mutombo’s father, former Hoyas great Dikembe Mutombo, but this could also be a decision that is left to Ryan Mutombo. If that is the case, don’t underestimate the better academic schools, including Stanford and the local Georgia Tech program. Florida State has become a landing spot for the best centers every year. The Seminoles remain involved for top-10 center Moussa Cisse and have continued to recruit Efton Reid , but the Seminoles are a team worth monitoring.

What will be will be. The coach has to keep moving and WIN along the way. If Ryan Mutombo wanted to be a HOYA he would have said so by now. Keep moving and develop the talent that is here!

The fact that Ryan has not committed to Georgetown absolutely does not mean he has no interest in being a Hoya. He is carefully and fully evaluating his options. That 100% makes perfect sense. Committing to Georgetown early just because his father went there would make no sense for an intelligent young man with his options.

I know Frazier complains all the time about people rooting against Georgetown succeeding but now we have a reason to

I think its wise for Ryan to do his due diligence...my hope is that in the end he'll decide to attend Georgetown on its own merits...

Let the process play out. If I were a youngster, being sought after for my basketball talent, I would let them all wine and dine me--whatever that entails--and then make my decision. I think Ryan does't want anybody putting undue pressure on him.

So is it that none of the '21's we are recruiting want to be Hoyas, since none of them have committed? Or that Ryan is supposed to automatically pick GU because his Dad went there?
