Players that think that they are really good always feel that they bring winning with them more than anything else. Know the mind of the great ones. What makes a player great is meeting the challenge laid before them amongst their other traits. Thank you JS. Ryan has visited with the coaches and players and he will know 1st hand if we had a few bad apples or a rotten tree. If it's the latter in his opinion he will think he can change the winning part. If it's the former he will go elsewhere. Time will tell.... Really? You think he can divine all of that in one visit? You know the devil was once an angel, right? It’s not as simple as talking to someone and then revealing their true colors. Some know how to hide it well, and they are the most dangerous.

Not always. Some, like Pat Jr, want to play with other talent. Some don’t want to be a one man show even though they know they can be. Some actually know what it takes to win and they’re not thinking in terms of their individual greatness and what they offer individually. It’s a team game through and through. Rock if Ryan came to GTown as of now he wouldn't be a 1 man show or even the best player at his position. Q, Sib and Tyler(🙏🏽) form a solid nucleus. If Dante and Kobe are as good I think then Ryan would also see potential in a really solid starting 5. And that's without Frankie... Okay but all I was responding to was the general assertion that elite players ALWAYS think they bring winning with them, I wasn’t applying it to our situation. But even so I don’t even like Mutombo’s game that much and objectively he’d be the highest rated and most talented kid on our roster. And not to mention the analysis isn’t about what Mutombo sees the cupboard as for next year, it’s about the trajectory of talent and the players that will actually be there during his career. Morko is great and all but that’s just year one, he’s probably thinking bigger than that. Not to mention, I just disagree that he wouldn’t be the best player at his position. Also not to mention, it’s all relative right? If teams have more talent than us (and many do) then we won’t be the only option where he feels he can play with other talent. I’m actually very optimistic that next season will be solid, but obvjectively the talent cupboard at GU is pretty sparse right now. We’ll have a much better idea of the team composition once we actually see the new faces play (probably what he and other recruits are monitoring). Until then they’re unknowns and a recruit may not assume those players will pan out as contributors. So as far as certainties in the area of talent, yeah we’re far behind compared to several schools pursuing him. Our talent didn’t exactly win last year in the way Mutombo is probably looking for. I’ll add for those that haven’t listened to the podcast, Pat Jr. wanted to go to UNC the year after they won the championship, but so many players and coaches were leaving he felt there wouldn’t be enough talent there to win and didn’t want to have to carry the team. And many don’t even realize how unselfish Pat Jr. was. He didn’t have to take a backseat to anyone but he chose to so he could win. And it worked out for him. He wanted to win so badly he took the move to sixth man in stride (not saying easily) and sought out to be the best 6 man in the country. Real site players make their impact felt regardless of the situation.

When you go on a interview the bosses all talk about how great the company is but the workers will tell you the truth if you get them alone.

To me he played more like a undersized PF who was just a better athlete than most. Sometime in his transfer sit year he developed a 3pt shot...I didn't see any of that at IU....

I think that CAN happen, but I don’t think it happens the majority of the time and sometimes it’s case by case. Apples don’t have to be so rotten that they rise to the level of being mentioned, it’s the ones that are right below that line that aren’t spoken about by their teammates and they’d the most toxic.

I don’t remember quite that well tbh but in the podcast he talks about how injuries affected his senior year of high school and that he added skill coming up here for his senior year and picked GU to continue working on his skill work. And then talked a little about how he had to play the 5 at IU and used to even mention to his coaches he wasn’t a 5, so I doubt he had many opportunities/responsibilities to shoot. Either was his case is a fascinating one and though unique, several other players have similarly interesting development. But yeah a top 4 star, fringe 5 star early in his high school career, some of that due to his name yes but no different than Mutombo right now I think. I know he’s good but it remains to be seen whether he has that “it” factor, at least for me.

Ryan Mutombo jumps out to me on this one. Whenever I need him for an interview and we schedule a time, I can expect him to answer when I call at that time. I've seen him putting work in with his travel coach, former Georgia Tech star James Forrest. I know he finished strong academically this year at one of the top private schools in Atlanta. It's not surprise that his offer list has been growing rapidly in the past few months. I'd expect him to cut his list down soon with Arizona, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Stanford, Tennessee and Virginia Tech among those that will remain in the mix. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/rivals-roundtable-best-fits-recruiting-approach-2022-breakouts

If it were not for B&G's cryptic remark recently-which we got no followup on when asked-I would think this list with no G'town on it was a typo/inadvertent omission...why in the world would Ryan eliminate us considering his close relationship with "Uncle Patrick" (his Godfather?) and his father's beloved alma mater when he said that he had a "great" visit in the spring and raved about being treated like/feeling a part of the family? Not to mention that he's an excellent student who values academics...I know and understand that he may ultimately choose to go somewhere else, but if that were the case I would think there would be some kind of indication of that beyond just a list coming out without our name on it...that's why it seems out of character to me from all we've seen and heard to this point...I really hope its just an oversight...

I have no idea where Ryan ends up - but several things are at play here. 1. Some kids simply don't want to play in their father's shadow. Pat Ewing Jr. was very candid in his Dawg Talk interview. Even after he decided to go to Indiana, when transferring he still didn't prefer Georgetown. It took him asking JT3, wasn't he worried about following in his dads footsteps to which Jt3 laughed and told him if thats what he's worried about he shouldn't go to Gtown. Pat said it put him at ease that JT3 wasn't worried about it and convinced him to make the move. Some kids don't want to be asked about their dad or his playing days at the same school all the time. They want their own path. Which brings us to 2. Ryan LOVES the process. I've heard from several folks that Ryan is the kid who wants to go on every visit. Be shown the love and treated like a star recruit should. And by the way, this isn't a shot at him, if I was a high major recruit I'd be doing the exact same thing. The problem for Ryan is that a lot of other schools don't want to waste resources if he's just going to end up at Gtown. Pat Ewing Jr. talked about this issue as well with his recruiting. So whats the best way to insure other schools think they have a legitimate shot? Make sure Georgetown is not on the tip of every recruiting experts tongue. And 3. Don't underestimate Trey Mournings experience. Trey loved Gtown but he saw the difficulties of being a former Hoya greats kid who was extremely close to Big Pat. Could he ever be his dad? Was he getting more minutes because of his family relationship with coach? If you recall there were transfer rumors on more than one occasion. All of this isnt to say that Ryan could very well still end up deciding to be a Hoya. But to paint this as anything other than a 17 year old kid enjoying the process and weighing what's best for him is ridiculous. There are many recent downfalls us diehards can point to that showed signs of concern for the program. This aint one of them.

Why do you keep trying to push this narrative? I explained a little and clearly we we never really in the lead... he was mostly being polite about his visit, although I’m sure he may have probably enjoyed himself even if he didn’t there’s no way he’d intentionally bad mouth the program he seems self-aware. And there are other good academic schools on his list too... maybe listening to what the kid has said and/or the people who have followed the recruitment more closely and maybe you won’t be as confused.

Given how strongly the Georgetown "family" aspect of the program is, we really need to bring in Mutombo. As others have said, Ewing Jr.'s interview gives a lot of insight as to why somebody like Ryan might not want to play Georgetown. But, here's the bottom line: it's easier to follow in your father's footsteps when that involves joining a winning team. Does it shock anybody that Ewing Jr. picked Indiana at a time when Georgetown was terrible?
The situations are actually pretty analogous, in that Esherick would have been recruiting Ewing Jr. at a time when the program was struggling big time. Similarly, Ewing is recruiting Mutombo after a tumultuous and poor season. I hope I am wrong, but if Mutombo keeps rising in the rankings, and Georgetown has a bad season again, I think getting a commitment from Mutombo is going to be an uphill battle (my pure speculation, for the record, I have no inside information).
