I like what I see in Wilson's skill set. We need a rim protector, someone who can defend his position one on one and then provide weakside help. It will allow our athletic guards (can't believe I'm saying that -- what a difference a year makes) to take chances defensively. Wilson can also run the court and finish above the rim. If Patrick thinks he can help, I'm a believer.

I can see where we might have to settle for lower ranked guards while Pat proves himself but we should not have to settle for project big men. If we are in fact going after true centers, not sure we should, we should go all in on the Bassey, Marial and Cockburn's of the class. College basketball is not a game where you can play 4 on 5 on offense anymore. If you are they better be super elite on D and boards and as Texas showed this year with Bamba that doesn't always mean success. hoyainla I don't know if Wilson would qualify as a "project". He will most likely be a solid 4* by the time he enrolls....

If we sign Wilson and he ends up being the next Brandon Boldin, we will have messed up and it will be very costly in terms of team development. If PE thinks he will be a four star by next year and that proves to be correct, then we are likely to have done well without having to beat off the Kentuckys and Dukes.

I think a lot of the big boys want fully formed bigs. Ewing, whose job used to be developing big men, probably sees that from another angle, and I think that could be a very good thing for us.

The kid is a 7-footer with, based on my eyes, uncommon athleticism. He lacks polish apparently but he has the type of upside worth gambling on. If it ever clicks for him offensively he, in my estimation, would end up being the best big man in his class. There are higher ranked bigs the Hoyas are after who nonetheless are not as tall and/or as explosive. Ewing is likely pursuing two bigs in this class anyway so getting Wilson doesn't mean he can't also get a big with a ranking more to your liking.

Wonder if that was an official visit, or an unofficial. Just getting him on campus is a great thing. Hopefully they can close the deal on him if they feel he is the guy they want for a center for the '19 class.

I would guess that it was an unofficial visit since he was already in town for the Adidas tournament over the weekend.

Like I said in another thread, I have no concern about Ewing's ability to land highly rated 4/5s from class of 2019. The pieces and story are in place to make a great pitch to high caliber student-athletes and their parents.

That was pretty damn quick, PE recruiting style leaves nothing to chance. If you wanna be a Hoya make the move or PE will move on.

I have no insider info, but I wouldn't be shocked to see a commitment soon from Malcolm. It is clear that he is a priority for the staff and the interest is definitely mutual. He would be a phenomenal start to the 19 class.

He’s got a long way to go offensively. Only averaged “five or six points” per game during his high school season (per his head coach). I’d prefer we chase down some bigger fish before going with someone like Malcolm at this point. But keep tracking him this summer of course.
