What a great read, thank you for sharing. Think it is interesting that he didn't care for McClung's recruitment to overshadow his. I wonder how that plays out, or if it has/had, on or off court.

What a great read, thank you for sharing. Think it is interesting that he didn't care for McClung's recruitment to overshadow his. I wonder how that plays out, or if it has/had, on or off court. "Despite that Akinjo is naturally competitive — senior Jessie Govan calls him the most competitive on the roster — the freshman didn’t particularly care that Mac McClung, who had been a viral dunking sensation for about a year by the time Akinjo signed with Georgetown, overshadowed him as a recruit." "Despite his competitiveness...didnt particularly care that..." When you leave out the 'despite' and change 'care that' to care for - it changes the entire meaning. I'm sure it was unintentional by the previous poster, but this is the kind of stuff that goes on on this board daily. We create problems that dont exist. I only hope some winning cures some of the long time pessimism that permeates this place even when unwarranted.

The whole sentence is odd. A guy that is that competitive is not gonna give a rip who says what about other guys. He'll prove it on the court.

Let's try this again. Here is the precise wording from the article: Despite that Akinjo is naturally competitive — senior Jessie Govan calls him the most competitive on the roster — the freshman didn’t particularly care that Mac McClung, who had been a viral dunking sensation for about a year by the time Akinjo signed with Georgetown, overshadowed him as a recruit.I read that as follows: "Even though he is naturally competitive" "He didn't really care that Mac's advance PR overshadowed Akinjo's recruitment". There is no problem between Mac and Akinjo. Scroll back to their first Hoya interview, with Coach. It's earlier in this thread. AND Read the article linked here: www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2018/12/23/meet-georgetown-freshmen-who-are-trying-put-hoyas-basketball-back-map/?utm_term=.f0ed0b5b230dThere is no problem. Their natural competitiveness will make both of them better. They - and Josh - are all tight. We are so lucky to have frosh like this... and Carter may well become an important contributor too... maybe even before we know it. Happy Hoya New Year!

How about the pic where they go off the court after LITTLE ROCK arm in arm. That puts the above to rest!

How about the pic where they go off the court after LITTLE ROCK arm in arm. That puts the above to rest! Yep. For whatever reason, some people like to create fictional problems, even when there is explicit evidence demonstrating that none exist. I don't get it. Maybe some people have too much time on their hands to be "creative."

Sorry, if it appears that I insinuated a problem that doesn't exist, but the writer should not have included it if they didn't want to raise eyebrows, IMO.
I am glad there are the great teammates and there is nothing to see here.

While it can't be easy being that far from home, I admire the fact that James came to the East Coast for school so he could better focus on school and ball. That's a mature decision for a 17 year old and one that, hopefully, pays off nicely for him. I love his demeanor and competitiveness. Hopefully, those rub off a bit on his teammates.

James Akinjo is in attack mode almost 100% of the time. I love that about him and importantly it's the kind of trait that the Hoyas have been lacking in recent years. He's going to win us games because of that relentlessness but he's going to have some questionable outcomes as well. He's a freshman, don't forget that. He's still learning his craft right now and while it can be heart stopping at times, watching him run the team is fast becoming a real pleasure.
When James gets scary is when he learns he can back off a little, slow down as a weapon, use a change of pace to his advantage. That's when the fun really starts.

Love Akinjo and expect him to be a key to the next several years. That said, he was a little shaky down the stretch again tonight.

Played solid on both sides of the ball today. Nothing spectacular but solid. Love, love, love having a true point guard on the floor who 90% of the time makes the right decision on the break.

Butler has 2 very good defensive guards. He played well enough. Kids got such a bright future

Yeah. Stud performance by him. Cool, calm, collected. I haven't felt this comfortable about a point guard since Markel graduated. Nice feeling to have again.

Agreed...we need a 3 possession lead going into the final minute of a game to feel somewhat comfortable. What I did like is that our offense keeps looking to attack at the end of a game as opposed to milking the clock at the 5 minute mark like former Hoya teams would.

As a freshman these types of games/situations are learning opportunities for Akinjo. The kid seems be a tireless worker and the more he goes through situations like this the better he will be at handling them. As Coach Ewing has said, the freshman need to learn that some things that worked in high school might not work in college. I am very confident his late game decision making continues to improve. He has the talent that everyone has been screaming for at the point for the last few years. In past years the Hoyas would find a way to lose a game like this, but now they are are finding ways to win these games.

Akinjo will be a great one for us. Last night, I thought Baldwin abused him a bit. I would have kept Jagan on Baldwin. Jagan was giving Baldwin fits.

Baldwin had 13pts on 6-16 shooting with 3 minutes left to go in the game...
Defense matters. James played a good game by my eye mainly because of that stat.

Jagan was guarding him for much of the 2nd half. Jagan did a good job on when James was off the floor. Defense is always about the team rather than the individual, but James was matched up against Baldwin for the majority of his 30 minutes of game time. On rewatch think you will see James guarding Baldwin even when both guys (Jagan and James) were on the court together. I thought Jagan made the play of the game with about 10 min left when we were only up 4 when he drew the charge on Baldwin. Butler was on a little run and Josh had just missed 2 ft's when it happened. Next play Greg hit a 3 and we never looked back. In terms of actual minutes guarding Baldwin he was only on him for about 5 minutes of gametime in the second half.

I was happy to see Pat but James back in the game to close with about 6 minutes left. It was shaky, yes, but much-needed experience for him. The kid is fearless and he's only going to get better over the course of Big East play. If we can keep stretching the floor, things are really going to open up for him and we're going to be very dangerous...
