I don't understand why it sounds like some want to push this young man out the door. Why can't it be, he wants to evaluate his options. Why would anyone think he's worried about a "brand"?

G-league is not a place where brands are enhanced. Better off being showcased in the Big East. Yeah nobody watches the G league.

I don't think making the G League is what Mac has in mind. I certainly agree with Bigs"R"Us that he be better off showcasing his brand in the BE

My sources tell me he's coming back. Of course I could be wrong, but things seem to be pointing in this direction. Georgetown will be the stage to show off his game....he just needs to stay healthy.

To me this is what he needs to show to next year being someone who might get taken early to mid 2nd. Stay healthy for a whole year. Even if his percentages dont change from 19-20. I think he will get a look because the one thing he has proven is that he can get his own shot against any level of competition and he is a very good finisher in traffic.

Again, I think he'll be back and ready to take his game to the next level.

Again, I think he'll be back and ready to take his game to the next level. Just out of curiosity, how is this possible? According to everything I've heard, the interview process is not allowed to start until April 15th and today is only the 13th. Even the interview with Mac that was recently posted states "The process of interviewing with NBA teams can begin on April 15 for underclassmen." Have NBA teams been so desperate to tell Mac what he needs to work on and that he needs to hurry up and go back to school that they are willing to violate the rules in place and risk sanctions? Beyond that, the NBA has not even made a decision yet if and when there will be a combine and if and when players can workout for teams... given that workouts are probably Mac's best and only chance of impressing a team enough to draft him or offer him a UDFA contract... which he pretty much stated in his interview... it seems he would want to 1. actually interview with teams, and 2. either workout or at least find out that he's not allowed to workout before he makes his decision.

Totally agree...I also found it interesting that Mac used the word “marketing” several times. The kid knows what he brings to the table. It is also interesting that in every interview that I have seen since declaring, he is wearing GU gear. Seems to have a good relationship with Coach, still. It’s pretty simple, IMHO: he gets assurance that he will get drafted, he is gone. Otherwise, he is a Hoya. Obviously I prefer the Hoya route, then the 1st round next year.

For so many reasons, this is not a good year fro Mac to jump ship.
Maybe I should have made this a thread, but I am not feeling right now creating more chatter, to put it mildly.

I too, want him here next year. And for the fourth year too.

Solid points but I think he meant marketing more in the sense that every player has to market themselves properly for the opportunity to get drafted. The perception of your talent is impacted by actions taken to optimize and maximize the proper exposure.

If it looks to Mac and his team of advisers that he would not be on a NBA roster next season, he will have a better opportunity to highlight his skills at Georgetown. He will be the main focus of the teams offense and if he can stay healthy, and produce at a high level, he will improve his standing with NBA scouts/teams. There probably is not any other opportunity where he will be able to play where he is going to be the go to guy on a team, so it makes sense. His role on the Hoyas next year will be similar to the role that Powell had a Seton Hall this year and then it will be up to Mac how he performs in that role. He seems to be a really confident player so I would think he would bet on himself doing well and improving his draft stock for the following year
Now if he gets word back that someone will draft him or that they give him the sense he will be on a NBA roster next year, (which is clearly his goal) then he needs to seriously consider that and most likely pursue that opportunity.
I hope he returns to Georgetown next season because I enjoy watching him play and think he can be a leader on the team.

No you’re right. Saying it’s absurd that our best player and best scorer in the BE is exploring the NBA, as the process is currently structured, is 100% accurate (despite NBA front offices clearly being intrigued). Yeah, I’m in the wrong for trying to push back on this inaccurate take. I guess I need to use more hyperbole 🙄.
