The kid is a real sleeper who's game has skyrocketed over the past year. He's a very hard worker, as I know him personally. Has taken his game to the next level.

I like his game. Smooth stroke from deep and can go strong to the basket. Good size and width. He doesn’t answer our need for another ball handler.

However, if he has TALENT...it answers that need!! Unfortunately, at this point, we should take all the talent we can find.

6'6" shooting guard that can shoot the lights out! I've watched him many times while at Kent Island High. Avg. close to 30 pts per his Senior yr., and the year at Mt Zion has taken his game to the next level. Great kid, good student, very humble.

But Johnson has proved that his talents are there. Playing with WeR1 (AAU) and Mt. Zion, and making first team all-conference this year at Mt. Zion, He has shown that he can play with the big boys.

I know highlight tapes make everyone look good, but Johnson sure likes a Big East player to me. Great range, long athlete, solid handles, hit a ton of outside shot, scored in a bunch of different ways. Why has his recruitment been so slow? I could only find this bigshots.net/tariq-johnson-talks-recruiting/ Academics? Off the court issues? Did he just grow a ton physically in one year? What am i missing?

www.prephoops.com/2017/09/recruiting-report-tariq-johnson-2018/ Seems like a high-floor/high-ceiling kid. Best case scenario, he keeps developing offensively and becomes a big time wing scorer. He has a natural shot and great body. Worst case scenario, he's Keldon Johnson. long rangy athlets, help bring it up, hit it if you're open, guard the wing, get rebounds.

Much like DaMonte Dodd (Queen Anne's High) who was at UMd, Tariq went to Kent Island High on the Eastern Shore, 15 mins east of Annapolis. He attended his Junior and Senior yrs. there. Many Eastern Shore kids can get looked over if they are not travelling with a known AAU team; Tariq was with Metro All-Stars before balling with WeR1. Grades weren't an issue with Tariq, it was more lack of exposure and sort of a late bloomer. He prepped in hope to garner more looks, Kansas State, Sienna and a few others came to Kent Island to see him. He and my Daughter (who also plays at Kent Island) both trained with Showcased Frames and I know the young man is a hard worker, I've seen him in the Gym on many Saturdays putting in intense drill work and it has paid off. If he had one issue, it was his motor, some Coaches would tell his trainer Tariq should have had 40pts instead of 25pts some nights. But Mt. Zion has appeared to have figured it out and Tariq has made that jump where his motor appears to be something of the past. The young man is a legit 6'6" and has a College ready body. He's simply a talented scorer. All around good guy, quiet young man that's about his business.

Kaleb has lost confidence in his stroke and can be passive at times. Tariq can shoot it and handles better than Kaleb. He also has a stronger frame and a little dog in him.

How many opportunities are left for the staff to see him?

Tariq is a kid that flew under the radar because of the reasons mentioned above and some because he just hadn't developed enough. I saw him over the summer and at that point he was nowhere near a BE level player. He may have developed a lot more and more importantly become a way better shooter this prep school year but it would be a huge jump to warrant a Georgetown offer. He will be a kid that will go to a mid major and then because of the prep year/age will probably have an impact late in his career and people here will say we missed on him. This is not meant to be a knock on him. I just don't think many people here factor in what a big jump it is from the Big East say to the CAA.
While we are on WeR1 though sign me up for Isaiah Wong right now.
