That was a bad goaltending call. As a Georgetown guy, I can relate. When things are going bad, the calls really seem to go against you at the worst times. The Johnnies came to play and I admire that about them with the season they've had so far. Those guys compete. To me, that's a marked difference from D'Angelo Harrison days of the Johnnies. If that's a shift in culture that Mullin has brought, good on him. I know Harrison was an incredibly streaky player but, when he checked out on a game, the whole team followed. It was depressing to watch. These guys don't seem to do that. They have ebbs and flows and have swings of intensity on D but nothing like I remember watching with the Harrison teams.

St. John's will beat Xavier tonight 2nd time I've said this. The game would look very different if not for that terrible call against Owens. I didn't expect them to win but I also didn't expect them to be that close. Good call by you.

It was very close, but the right call.

That cost them.

Since St. John's didn't win last night (bad call on Owens) the Hoyas will finish the job and beat them on their home court Saturday! That's just the way I think. Whose with me? Go Hoyas!

Macura literally threw his head into Owens face/chin but Owens was called for the critical foul that put him on the bench.

Watching St. John's lose games just amazes me. Lots of talented players but no real, intelligent floor leader. Again reinforces the need for a true point guard. I think the jury is still out on Mullin. This team is too talented to be 0-10 in the BE.

They have 2 players averaging close to 5 assists per game in conference play, both their assists to turnovers ratio is 2 to 1.. Having a true pg(whatever that really is) is not their issue imo..

Watching game last night it is pretty obvious that beating Xavier requires two things; a really good man to man defense and; a really good home crowd. Obviously you always want a good man defense but Xavier seemed especially shaky last night when Johnies pressured their ball handlers. Long time since I saw Macura play so poorly. And a loud home crowd always helps when you are playing pressure defense since it is hard to hear calls from open men. Going way back, St. Joes under Doc Ramsey lived off this when playing in the Palestra. Sadly, we probably won't have either this Saturday. So let's hope for a competitive game and more growth from Blair, Pickett and Mosley.

I've liked our pressure defense especially with Derrickson at the point of attack. We don't have the ability to keep it up for long stretches but Ewing is getting better at figuring out when it is best applied. It could be a difference maker. I thought the Creighton game was going to be our breakthrough road win but alas. It seems like it has been a while since we've had a close game with Xavier so I'm feeling we're due.
