That's extremely odd giving our lack of depth. I have really like what i have seen from Walker to this point. I think it would be a mistake if Walker is not part of the rotation in some capacit going forward. We have a set 8 man rotation, but I'd be shocked if he didn't get any run Saturday.

I’m glad North Texas turned out to be a better team than when we scheduled them. This is a good illustration of how these types of teams provide a good challenge yet are still very beatable.
I am sort of surprised at how positive the reactions are generally - don’t get me wrong, there were plenty of things to like in this game from our guys, but I also saw a bunch of lapses that are fixable and would make us a lot better.
Turnovers continue to be a problem, especially our guards. Mosely, Blair, and Dickerson turned it over 8 times in 49 total minutes. That’s really bad - I’m not sure this is a problem that can be fixed - I haven’t seen much improvement over the course of the season, but our Big East foes will make us pay for these mistakes. Govan has much improved on turnovers this year, but he had 3 this game which is high for him.
The defense was porous, which is why we were behind for a while. Woodland had several drives into the paint where he basically faced no defense at all. Our rotations are way off at times and again, in this game we got away with it because North Texas often missed their shots when we left them wide open but teams like Villanova and Xavier will slaughter us if we do that. Perhaps outside Govan, I just haven’t seen much improvement on defense overall - yes, we have individual possessions where we play great defense, but then others where it just falls apart.
Our three point shooting was actually not bad - 35.7%. Our guards, though were only 2-8 from three, which is why North Texas was (rightly in my mind) sagging off our guards and daring them to shoot.
Other good things - we took 26 free throws to their 9, and we had six less fouls than North Texas. I’m glad Ewing has largely fixed the fouling disparity we saw for the last several years.
Marcus Derrickson had a really nice game. Govan’s blocks were great. Kaleb and Pickett didn’t turn it over at all - and Mulmore only had one turnover, which was good.
And we won and came back from a defecit, which was very nice. But I still think there is loads of room for improvement.

The problem with our 3 point perimeter shooting is pretty obvious after 10 games against mostly easy competition. The outliers here may be Mulmore, whose shooting percentage from deep is based upon a very small sample because he doesn't shoot, and Blair, who has better form and appears to be more reliable from deep. Interestingly, Govan has followed Ewing's desire to stay inside as he has only tried 16 3 point shots and Kaleb only 23 for the season. Given these numbers the Hoyas are going to see a lot of zone during conference at least until someone can find their shot or Ewing can scheme around the guards' shooting deficiencies.
Jessie Govan .467 Marcus Derrickson .387 Kaleb Johnson .522 Jonathan Mulmore .462
Jamorko Pickett .318 Jahvon Blair .342 Jagan Mosely .273 Trey Dickerson .182

Three point shooting from the guard position will be our Achilles heel this season. We need to start addressing this with the '18 class. Mac is just a start.

Gtown could probably get more 3pt shots for Govan & Derrickson if they run more high screen game using them & Pickett or Blair instead of Mulmore & Mosely..

Eager to see what Malinowski can do, but we need PGs that can drill it from the top of the key. Otherwise, defenses will collapse and make it harder for our bigs.

Malinowski can flat out shoot the rock and he's not bad in transition and finishing. Point guards are only required to knock down the open jumper but yeah it helps when they can knock down jumpers not only from the top of the key but from around the perimeter.

Based on Kenner, what makes anyone think Malinowski will get any run.

If your PG can't shoot, you can sag off of him.
