Regarding coaching and Pickett’s shot selection: that quick free throw line extended jumper inside the Syracuse zone in the second half was clear evidence of coaching.

Also anyone saying the team everyone picked 9th or 10th in the league coming off consecutive losing seasons is a "pretty good team" would be a credit to how the coach is developing the team more than an indictment of his scheduling. I agree. Notwithstanding scheduling issues, analysts saying we look pretty good or even mentioning the word bubble about us is good to hear. I don't think we are going to make the tourney, but playing well in these types of games matters.

We're not going 9-9 in the Big East. Probably not, but I could still see this team winning between 7-9 league games if they can find out a way to win some close games. If they don't lose another non-conference game and can go 10-1 and then were to somehow win 7-8 league games, I think it'd be an incredible performance. Ewing has developed a tough, scrappy team. They seem like a team that's not good per se but also a team that refuses to accept that they are bad. I saw a roster that was overmatched by a deeper Syracuse squad yesterday fight their way into a position to win. I think this season is going to be a struggle, but I'm not giving up on it either. Frankly, if Ewing gets 7-9 league wins out of this lineup, he should be in contention for league coach of the year.

Yes 6 or 7 wins would be a pretty darn good accomplishment this year. I would be stunned if we got to 9. But I guess stranger things have happened.

Great points from Patrick Stevens. It's just tough after a loss from last night seeing guys so unprepared for crunch time when a couple of harder OOC games could have helped. That said, the goal of the schedule was made clear at the beginning of the year and that goal was achieved (fill up the W column). They'll have a chance to grow during BE play, maybe steal some wins, and be ready to compete with the best next year.

That's just funny - NCAA tournament optimism. No one in their right mind had even a hint of that.

That's just funny - NCAA tournament optimism. No one in their right mind had even a hint of that. And this is why I laugh at anyone who wants to harp on the schedule. All of us rational fans knew the NCAA's weren't even in consideration this year. I've had a couple Syracuse fans say to me "wow you guys really screwed yourselves for March with that schedule." The only March I've been thinking about is the NIT (for which I think should be the goal for this team). This team lost it's 2 leading scorers, Isaac Copeland, Paul White, and Trey Mourning, all of whom except Rodney should have been on the team playing this year if things had all been right in a perfect world. Couple that with poor PG recruiting. Anyone who wants to take pot shots at the schedule and say it screwed us for March just doesn't follow the team close enough like we do, or just doesn't understand what this rebuild was going to consist of. Sure, I even admitted to my brother this morning that last night's loss stung me pretty hard bc the team surprisingly is better than I thought they would be. So when I see such a winnable game that we lose in that fashion, as with Syracuse, it stings. And although I'm pleasantly surprised with our play the two aforementioned games have zero NCAA implications. Maybe NIT but assuredly not NCAA. This team is still another year from that

Nice work by Patrick Stevens. Jeff Goodman could take a few lessons from him.
