9-9: 0-4 against Nova, Xavier (Nova & Xavier are tough and skilled) 1-1 against Seton Hall (we catch them on a good and a bad night; first W vs a ranked team for Pat) 1-1 against Butler (W on Wednesday) 1-1 against Creighton (haven't watched them, but upset W at Capital One) 1-1 against SJU (let the Mullin-Ewing era begin) 5-1 against DePaul, PC & Marquette Merry Christmas/Feliz Navidad to all!!!! I like this but get the "house of cards" feeling. A bad loss tomorrow night and this whole edifice collapses. True. With Nova and Xavier so far ahead from where we are now, all that talented experience at Seton Hall, and winning in Omaha is very hard to do, there's not much room for error. We need the W this Wednesday.

I like this but get the "house of cards" feeling. A bad loss tomorrow night and this whole edifice collapses. Put another way, to go 5-1 against DePaul, Providence, and Marquette would require us to win 4 games against opponents that are better than Syracuse - including at least two away games. While I would love to see this, it's hard to see this happening unless we really tighten up our play from the out of conference schedule. And for what it's worth, we aren't even favored in the game at DePaul. Teams like Seton Hall and Creighton will also be huge favorites against us. That said, I think what you're describing above is probably close to a scenario where we "overachieve" by a good margin. Barring massive improvement, it's hard for me to see us performing better than the scenario above, and this feels like a pretty big stretch as it is.

So looking back through this thread, only four posters were definitive that we wouldn't win more than 4 BE games. Since we are already at 5 wins I'm guessing that those four are happy to be wrong.
Many predictions came in at 6 - 8 and I'm personally feeling much better about my predicted 7 wins. I think we can get two of three remaining games at home to get us to 7 and if we get lucky we can get a major upset of Xavier as well for 8. I don't think we have the goods for Nova on the road unfortunately.

Back on Dec 24 I said:
"I said before Syracuse we would be 7-11. But after Syracuse I will up that to 8-10. Gotta win games that we are ahead with 2-3 minutes left. Syracuse will be the type of game we will be playing against all our BE opponents with the exception of Nova and Xavier. Jagan and Mulmore must close these games out. No TO's in the final 3 minutes."
I'll stand by the 8 wins. But in order to do so Dickerson, not Mulmore or Mosley, will have to continue his outstanding guard play.

Realistically, 7. Now, you give me 9, and I would be dancing on the ceiling.

Realistically 6 ...give me 7 and i’ll Be happy. Give me 8 and i’ll Be kicking myself knowing that those eight wins could have very easily been 10 and a tourney bid but for a collapse at home against Butler and a Mulmore foul against Xavier.

I’m already happy. Hoyas are much better in February than earlier in season. That’s really all I wanted especially since it had been a long time since that was true.
Otherwise I agree with blueandgray.

Barring a miracle in Philly on Saturday, we're going to end up with 5.
Frustrating to think about 6 others that got away (Butler, DePaul, @x, Prov x 2, Marquette). Split those (or even go 2-4) and the season looks/feels a lot different, I think.

I think we are good enough to beat the 6th and 7th best BE teams at home, and 7-11 would have felt a lot different.
