Maybe we should consider Texas' desire to secede after all...

A coalition of Catholic nuns has filed a lawsuit against gunmaker Smith & Wesson, calling for the company to stop producing AR-style rifles, which the women claim are “the weapon of choice for numerous mass murderers.” The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in a Nevada district court, alleges that Smith & Wesson has repeatedly ignored “red flags” and failed to respond appropriately to mass shootings in the United States. The lawsuit references some of the deadliest mass killings in recent U.S. history — including at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., in 2012; a high school in Parkland, Fla., in 2018; and an elementary school in Uvalde, Tex., in 2022. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/12/07/smith-wesson-catholic-nuns-lawsuit/

Can we get a "thoughts and prayers" from self-professed "pro-life Republicans?" Hopefully, this does not fall into the mass shooting category given the early morning of the incident. Obviously Biden's fault. PERRY, Iowa (AP) — Police in Perry, Iowa, say there was a shooting Thursday at the city’s high school. A woman who answered the Perry Police Department phone confirmed the shooting at Perry High School but did not provide any further information. An enormous number of emergency vehicles surrounded the building that houses the town’s middle school and high school. apnews.com/article/perry-high-school-shooting-iowa-1defc6260e074362240a31a7f30cf1b9

Bye bye - just another fraudster and grifter, so typical of "Republicans." NRA chief Wayne LaPierre announces resignation Longtime National Rifle Association chief executive Wayne LaPierre, facing a lawsuit in New York that sought to remove him from his post, announced his resignation from the organization Friday. LaPierre is named as one of four defendants in a lawsuit over alleged fraud filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James. Last week a state appeals court ruled the suit could move forward, denying a request from the NRA to end the probe. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/01/05/nra-wayne-lapierre-resigning/

Let me take a wild guess and submit that these 2nd Amendment fetishists are all MAGA GOPers. The corruption fits. A former top executive at the National Rifle Association, Joshua Powell, has admitted wrongdoing and agreed to pay $100,000 on the eve of a civil corruption trial of the organization's top executives set to begin on Monday. www.npr.org/2024/01/06/1223298878/nra-joshua-powell-new-york-corruption-case

Texas! Yee Haw! All those Texas tough LEOs and "good guys with guns" didn't do their jobs. I could have sworn toxic Gov. Abbott praised LEO response immediately after the mass shooting. Uvalde shooting report sharply critical of police response, leaders The report was highly critical of local police commanders. It also criticized state law enforcement, saying its officers added to the disorganization and confusion that contributed to the 77 minutes that elapsed between when the young gunman burst into the school and when police finally stormed the classroom where he had been killing children. “Leadership in law enforcement is absolutely critical, especially in moments of dire challenge,” the report says. “It requires courageous action and steadiness in a chaotic environment. … This leadership was absent for too long in the Robb Elementary School law enforcement response.” www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2024/01/18/uvalde-school-shooting-doj-report/
