It's been so long since last we visited this thread. In the meantime, we have seen another shooting at a synagogue, which would have seen much worse results had the shooter's gun not jammed, and today a Columbine redux. I don't know why these events are even considered newsworthy. They're an infinitesimal price to pay to protect our right to maintain firearms up the wazoo. Nothing to see here. We do not have someone out in the community to do more harm.” Except the next nut job with a gun. I visited Virginia Beach once when I was a student at GU. Just SMH. Yessiree, thoughts and prayers all around. |

It could be happening as I type this and not one person would be shocked. But, by all means, let's not try to change a damn thing. |

This country is so broken that we don’t even bother with thoughts and prayers when we get a mass shooting. We can’t even go through the motions and pretend like we care.

A 21 year old white male... traveled 10 hrs by car... to kill brown people.
A 21 year old white male... wrote a manifesto... to encourage other white males to kill brown people.
A 21 year old white male was able to buy an assault rifle and scores of ammo... without question.
In the coming days, we will certainly be told that it’s too early to get into the politics, that the time is to grieve. We will certainly be told this by the leader of the party that has been dehumanizing brown people for years.
When will we as a society wake up and realize that the politics started the moment these deranged people opened fire? How many more innocent people will it take? Will anyone in the GOP acknowledge their responsibility for using the language to inspire people like this to kill brown people?
I’ve had enough.

By Tuesday, the Trump Twitter account is fired up over some story he saw on Fox & Friends and the national narrative shifts again. (He's past due for some "Pocohontas" references.) |
