Times you have complained about Ewing recruiting Chris Sodom from Tennessee Prep Academy : 0 To be honest, I know nothing about Sodom’s recruitment. But thank you for furthering my point. We have been not been perfect and people in glass houses should not throw stones. I sincerely hope that Georgetown does not get ensared in all of this, but I’m not celebrating yet either. There is a massive difference between taking kids with questionable academic backgrounds and literally paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to persuade blue chip recruits to commit to your school and then taking kickback for steering those kids to agents, money managers, etc. Not all impropriety is created equal and I would be downright flabbergasted if the FBI gave one iota of a crap about schools bending NCAA rules for academics. The FBI chases the money and the companies/people behind it.

Agreed with all that the Egerson situation was not as serious as the current mess with the FBI. I offered Egerson as a response to an earlier post where someone made the claim that JTIII never "compromised his integrity". Recruiting a kid with a 600 SAT and 12 Fs who then attended a known diploma mill may not rise to the seriousness of fraud and under the table payments, but it certainly bends eligibility rules.
Does that mean that Georgetown is as dirty as Cuse, UNC, Ville, etc.? Certainly not.

How so? The NCAA is the arbiter and the judge of eligibility, not Georgetown. We don't have the power to decide who is eligible and who is not out of high school (see Anthony Perry, Jameel Watkins, Moses Ayegba). I think we'd both agree that the NCAA does a terrible and inconsistent job of applying their own standards, but I'm not sure how that ends up at the "JTII compromised his integrity" conclusion. If you're complaining that it doesn't square with Georgetown admissions writ large, that's a different argument, but not really a intercollegiate rule/federal law based one.

No criminal lawyer here, but mail fraud, wire fraud in connection with allegations of honest services fraud leap to mind. I am sure there are others

Serves them right, trying to defraud all those innocent and unsuspecting coaches boosters and sneaker companies. #sarcasm #disgust

I hope that Pitino fights back hard and exposes everyone who has collaborated, tacitly or otherwise, in perpetuating this corrupt model for college sports. It would be a shame if the University of Louisville (and the other schools involved) can remove the stench by simply firing the coach. These Administrations either knew or should have known the character of the individuals they hired to run their programs. The ugly side of college basketball has been an open secret for years and the only thing that sickens me more than watching a guy like Pitino claim "he did not know" is listening to college administrators profess outrage and shock as they attempt to distance themselves from the acts of their employees.

Pitino is posturing to get away from the "fired for cause" scenario and into a $$$ settlement on his contract
