Smart...skilled...versatile...can knock down perimeter shots...and is never going to be satisfied...if he sticks to this attitude/work ethic, that's a pretty good RX for future success...welcome aboard, Grayson (and family)... Another nail in the coffin of the Ewing can't recruit meme...

If you go by that metric, Jeff Green RSCI 112 would not be a a good recruit. Neither would Hibbert, or Greg Whittington. Reggie Cameron #82 Isaac Copeland #32 Jeff Green #112 Roy Hibbert #129 Last time we went to a final 4 we had 2 top 100 recruits. Dajuan Summers and PEjr... Love you man but give these kids a chance before you judge their skill level/impact solely on their ranking. So many kids get misevaluated. Even the kid you mentioned above was not considered a top 100 recruit at this time last year..

Regardless if a recruit is a Top 100 or Top 50 pick they've gotta be eligible to play in and out of the classroom, Grayson is a 3.8 student!

This doesn't seem to be a "take anybody" get... Ewing has said he wants to play "4 out" and the players who have signed on most recently fit that style in a pretty obvious way. The staff seems to be sticking to a plan, and I hope they keep it up!

We really do not know how players will pan out, but this kid was recruited by solid D1 programs, is still coming off an injury that limited him last year, and seems to be a good outside shooter for PE's pro-style offense. Given that PE has been head coach for only five months and had no opportunity to develop relationships with the 2018 class, this is a reasonable pickup. And getting the class he has for this year was still a solid accomplishment. Again, the program was about the worst in the BE last year -- worse that SJU and possibly DePaul, and became a laughingstock in the BE over the past few years. So it will be a long trip back, but this is a positive development.

Some folks will never be satisfied. This guy is a quality player!!!!! I'd rather trust the assessment of the coaches rather than a scouting service and a gold star system. There are lots of excellent unranked players. Be happy, this could be the start (the continuation) of somethinG BIG; with others to follow!

If you insist on P'ing in our coffee, at least get the numbers right. Walker, Malinowski, Dickerson, Blair, Sodom, Pickett, and Carter. That's 7 by my count. Carter looks like a decent player. I'm happy we have him. We need some top 100 talents if we expect to compete in the Big East. Hopefully Ewing can start recruiting some.

Don't know anything about him. Every coach lands recruits, whether they are good or not is TBD. Every kid outside the top 100 is underrated when they commit to your school or not that good when they commit elsewhere in the eyes of fans. Getting top kids in the end matters.
I still don't know what Ewing's team will look like in terms of style and we will have to wait before we can really evaluate his commits so far. Fit is a lot more important when most of the kids you bring in are outside the top 100. I think it is unfair to judge until we see what a PE coached team looks like.
At least in this kid's case he missed time due to injury. It's better than being healthy and playing in all of the events and still not be highly regarded.

I'm not as concerned about style as I am about player development, to me that's the key factor at the majority of successful non blue blood programs.. Carter can be a very good chance for PE to show that he can coach kids up..

Very good pickup by Ewing and the staff! Versatile player who has size and a skill set can lead to offensive mismatch opportunities. Got some Bennie Boatwright (USC)/Boris Diaw in his game.
Rankings are the dumbest way to judge an incoming prospect. Look at the 2014 class that was top 10 nationally with 3 top 100 players vs. the 2004 class that didn't have any Top 100 players. Both classes played for the same coach in the same system and 1 of these classes was really really good and the other was a massive disappointment.
You can't let rankings dictate how you recruit. IMO outside of the top 5/10 players in any given class, the most important thing is fit within a team's style. Top 5/10 players in a class can play for any program in any style and should be an immediate impact. The rest of the prospects it becomes about the fit within the style. The further down the players are in the rankings the more important the fit.
We don't exactly know the full details of what Ewing's offensive and defensive styles and schemes will be. We do know that he wants to play an NBA style which in today's NBA requires multiple skills, versatility, perimeter shooting touch and ability to take advantage of mismatches. Whether Ewing will employ a heavy pick and roll, pick and pop sets, floppy action or ISO sets, you need players that have versatile skills especially BIGS and Grayson Carter looks to have that and should be a good fit, and that's what's important.
I also find it funny that those who are throwing some shade on this commitment of Carter because he's currently ranked around 200 nationally have demonstrated a more than strong desire for the staff to get a commitment from a prospect who's currently ranked below 400??? Be consistent!

Walker signed a letter of intent when JTIII was coach. So like I said, 6. But yes we need top 100 guys to step up the program. We are involved with a number of them, hopefully they start popping.
