After missing almost the entirety of his sophomore season with an injury, Grayson Carter transferred to Guyer from Dallas Bishop Dunne and immediately filled a role the Wildcats were missing. Carter averaged a team-high 7.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks while scoring 11.2 points per game as a junior, earning first-team all-district honors on a team that went 25-6 and won the District 6-6A championship. He had 18 offers on the table before announcing his commitment to Georgetown in September, and made things official by signing a national letter of intent Wednesday. "I think his biggest impact is as a person," Guyer coach Grant Long said. "He has great character, is an intelligent kid and he's great in the classroom — really the total package. On top of all that, he's a great basketball player. He makes it easy on you as a coach. __ "The relationship with the coaches was another big thing," Carter said. "I just clicked with the whole staff and the team there. That had a huge impact on me." www.dentonrc.com/sports/high-schools/2017/11/08/disd-signing-notebook-carter-heads-georgetown-guyer-volleyball-trio-goes-division

After watching the opening game, it's very easy to see why Coach Ewing pursued LeBlanc, McClung and Grayson Carter and how well all 3 seem to fit what Coach wants to do on both sides of the ball. If I'm Carter I'm beyond excited after watching Derrickson and Govan and how they were used because it fits his skill set to a tee and he will probably be counted on to contribute early.

One of the more notable games scheduled for the Thanksgiving Hoopfest's opening day Friday is a marquee matchup between the state's No. 6-ranked South Garland and No. 3 Denton Guyer boys teams. Last year, Guyer was one of the top teams in 6A throughout the year, finishing with a 25-6 regular-season record before falling to Euless Trinity 92-91 in the first round of the playoffs. South Garland, on the other hand, started 2016 0-4 but bounced back, finishing the regular-season with a 10-2 record in district play. South Garland ended its season with a playoff win over Richardson before losing to Rockwall 61-60 in the second round. Both teams have started 2017 strong. Guyer is 3-0, while South Garland sits at 7-1 with its only loss coming against Midlothian, Class 5A's No. 8 team, on Nov. 11. sportsday.dallasnews.com/high-school/high-schools/2017/11/22/sportsdayhs-hoops-blog-five-things-watch-weekends-thanksgiving-hoopfestAustin Westlake vs. Denton Guyer: It's safe to say that Denton Guyer will get its fair share of competition this weekend. After taking on South Garland on Friday, the Wildcats must turn around and face No. 2 Austin Westlake (4-0) at 6 p.m. Saturday. Westlake has won its first four games by an average of 25 points. However, none of the teams it have beaten is nearly as talented as Guyer. However, Westlake is extremely talented in its own right. Westlake's frontcourt features Class of 2018 6-7 forward Matthew Mayer, who is committed to Baylor and ranked the No. 3 player at his position in the state. And junior center Will Baker is the No. 15 overall prospect in ESPN's 2019 Class.

Guyer up 49-35
Carter scored 4 (2-4) a couple steals and a few rebounds. Played the entire game but didn't get a ton of touches. Garland is a top 5ish team in Texas and they look overmatched. This Guyer team is really solid especially when their Junior PG (Oklahoma commit) Devion Harmon is playing like he is today..

66-65 Guyer after 3. Guyer looks like they decided to stay in the locker room after halftime...

Guyer wins 98-91. I had Carter with 13 and 10+ rebounds. Devion Harmon was the star of the show, finished with 37 points.
OT but Coach Cal was at the game watching class of '19 South Garland 5 star PG, Tyrese Maxey...

If we could get Grayson's teammate De'Vion Harmon by some miracle (he's already committed to OK) it would exactly what the doctor ordered. He's exactly what we need.

That's great...and he also plays on a great team, so he already understands what it means to play big time team basketball...
