After addressing the immediate needs with their first three highly talented and skilled commits (all by the beginning of August), the staff can now afford to be highly selective with their remaining scholly. Kudos to the staff for their hard work so far...Time to go BIG GAME HUNTING! I'm not talking about "rankings" when I say BIG Game Hunting! I'm talking about bringing the right talent/fit regardless of "ranking". The three current commits are some of the best "3 Star" talent you will see.... ESPN list Riley and Billingsley as 4 stars.

We have 5 guards, why him especially? He easily can play a college 3. He plays inside for his hs team now.

Find the player who will be the best fit for the program, not the most talented or highest ranked player.

Today, we take a look at Nisine Poplar. WHO IS HE? A solidly built and athletic junior combo guard who is pushing 6-foot-5, Poplar has been busy putting together one heck of a resumé during his first two full years of playing organized basketball. As a sophomore, Poplar helped led his team in scoring and they won a class AA State Championship during his first year of organized basketball. As a junior, he earned State Player of the Year honors in his class and led MC&S to their first ever Philadelphia Public League Championship while averaging 22 points, five rebounds and three assists per game. During the summer he runs with K-Low Elite. "I think what will separate Nisine from his classmates around the country, is his multi-faceted abilities offensively," said his high school coach Lonnie Diggs. "He has a rare combination of slick ball handling, great athleticism and elite level outside shooting. He is a true combo guard with a rapid learning curve. I think he has talent, upside & skills to be a 5star recruit. To say that Poplar has a wide ranging list of scholarship offers would be an understatement as those who want him run the gamut. Auburn, Cal State Bakersfield, Central Connecticut State, Delaware State, DePaul, Drexel, Georgia, LaSalle, Marquette, Maryland, Miami, NJIT, Old Dominion, Penn State, Robert Morris, St. Francis (Pa.), St. John's, St. Joseph's, Temple, VCU, Virginia Tech and Wichita State. In addition to all of those offers, Poplar has had the likes of Connecticut, Georgetown, Kentucky and Minnesota reach out for more information. So far, he's seen the campuses of LaSalle, St. John's, St. Joseph's and Temple while he recently conducted a zoom visit with the Miami staff. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/introducing-2021-shooting-guard-nisine-poplarOne of my favorite players in this class. Nisine Poplar is one of the most overlooked players in this class. So much Victor Oladipo in his game. Would love for the staff to lock him in! I'm going to keep saying it, Nisine Poplar out of Philly is a STUD and one of my favorite players in the 2021 class. I saw him play in person twice in 2019. He's got so much Victor Oladipo in his game. Future Pro! For those of you who only validate players by stars or a # next to their names, the "Ranking Industry" hasn't seen him enough and are way behind the curve on this one. He's only been playing ball for a couple years and dominated the Philadelphia Public School League this past season. The staff had offered and I hear they are involved with him. Hoyas get him they are getting a steal. I would put him up their with. Some of the top Wings in the country like Aminu Mohammed without any hesitation.

I absolutely love Poplar's game, I think he would thrive at Georgetown. It's actually amazing how many of these big time prospects the Hoyas are extremely well positioned with. A .500 team who hasn't been to the NCAAs since these kids were in grade school and we have a shot to be a top 10 class in the country. Riley and Billingsley are kids who would have blown up this summer, Beard after a year at Hargrave is going to be ready day-1 (I think he would have been already, but whatever). Poplar, Muhammad, Mutombo, Reid, Holmgren, Kepnang, Malachi Smith the list goes on and on with guys the Hoyas have serious traction with. Huge testament to the work Coach Pat and staff have done over the last few years. The tide is turning on the hilltop.

This team would have been in prime position for an NCAA tournament bid (pre COVID) If it wasn't for some of the court shenanigans/bad decisions that three players got caught up in and injuries. Even then Coach Ewing had this team with only 6 players (not the top 6), two of them freshman, one of them was supposed to redshirt, in every game except at Marquette. I don't care what anybody else thinks, Coach Ewing proved he's a helluva Coach! I'm excited to see what he can do going forward. YEEESSSS! GREAT TIMES ARE COMING BACK!

With Mac and Yurt that 7 man team makes the NCAAs, which is remarkable. Just keep these kids in the program for a few years and we will be back at the top of the Big East where we belong. I hope Ryan Mutombo sees that and realizes and he can push the Hoyas over the top. Wahab as a Junior will be the best big man in the Big East and then we can have Mutombo as a Freshman banging with him and filling in for him at times. The 2021-22 Hoyas could be special.

I actually think that this years team will be last seasons version of Butler. A team that isn't expected to do much but surprises everybody finishing in the middle of the conference and making the NCAA (if there is a season). I know some people will say I'm wildly optimistic but hey give me a bunch of under appreciated players who have a chip on their shoulders and buy in completely to what the coaching staff is teaching them over a bunch of "5- Star" guys with their own agendas.

I agree that I am expecting at least to be on the bubble this year. The main reason to me is Wahab. He really started to show out towards the end of the year last season. He could very easily be the best big in the conference this season.

Since Coach Ewing has taken over the reigns, he's had a double-double player every season. Wahab is that guy this season.

Jordan Hawkins getting crystal balls to UCONN. I hope in the future we get these local kids. Never really felt the focus from the staff on him so hopefully we like what we got in Billingsley over him.

Well......that's disappointing! Somebody is going to get a helluva a ball player. Hopefully he stays in the BIG EAST! Please not Maryland, L$U or Auburn, but especially not Maryland or L$U! He's going to be fun to watch depending on where he goes.

I don't think it was a Billingsley over Hawkins decision like your response makes it out to be. They are Two very different players. Billingsley fits a BIGGER need with his size and skill set then Hawkins does specifically in the 2021 class.

Jordan Hawkins getting crystal balls to UCONN. I hope in the future we get these local kids. Never really felt the focus from the staff on him so hopefully we like what we got in Billingsley over him. I think he'll be really good and it'll be frustrating to watch it happen at UConn. I don't think we took Billingsley over him though as they are different players and positions. Hawkins to Riley is a more direct comparison as both are shooting guards. And it's not exactly like we chose Riley over Hawkins, as I think by the time we offered Riley we were already very much on the outside looking in for Hawkins. Hopefully we have better luck with the next wave of kids coming through DeMatha, specifically Rodney Rice.
