How are we gonna get Shaka when we have to pay III 3.5 million a year and Shaka is 2.9 mil going up to 3.4 under his stress contract in a few years. The more likely scenario is hiring a coach that is cheap. And that is why we will have a very good chance of doing this all over again in 3 or 4 years. Shall we entertain interviews with the top HS coaches in the DMV? Worked in 1972!

Oh please. The Thompsons aren't uniquely able to run a clean program. And in terms of wins, we weren't going to have any for the foreseeable future anyway. We shall see. The only success that GTown has seen has been under Thompson control. But again we shall see. I will return to the post Next year and peek in and see how things are going. Because who but a horrible hire could fail to succeed with this roster in a year's time?

Some of the names mentioned on ESPN 980 like Eddie Jordan...you can't be serious.

I hope the school does not try to make this next hire on the cheap. I don't think they need to go out and overpay someone to come to Georgetown, but they should be able to attract good candidates and hopefully structure some type of incentive based contract that gives a good coach the opportunity to make really good money if they can bring the program back to a high level. Everything should be in place ( great league, great tradition, great facilities and an outstanding recruiting market in your back yard) for the right coach to make the program consistently strong again. It may take a 2 or 3 years to see a complete turn around but the right coach can make it happen.

I am thinking it's Ewing. That hire does not excite me. Should have made this move weeks ago and tried to get Keatts. Would Dooley leave Providence for this job? O percent chance IMHO. First PE Jr is probably let go since he was part of the staff and if you hired Ewing Sr it would cause friction between him and JT JR. Thus move closes the Thompson book and we will hire a completely different coach.

Sad day for GU but I believe a good ay for GU basketball. I had hoped JT3 could have been let down gracefully but he probably wasn't going to quit so we had no choice. That said, as I said before, to paraphrase the Wizard of Oz, "JT3 was not a bad man but was just a bad coach". His record since the creation of the new BE has been horrendous and 3-17 over the last 2 years in Feb/March was beyond terrible. Okay so now what? I really think we have to look at the programs we really like, the ones whose teams play a modern, up tempo, guard/forward oriented offense and ferocious defense/rebounding. Then try to get either their coach or a long time assistant. There must be some young NY east coast guys laboring on the bench in east bumpkinsville who would love to get back to the BE and MSG.

Rumors about Geno Auriemma. Seriously, where do these rumors start? Geno would straighten out this circus quick. He would have to bring CD with him. They are a package deal.

Lets just get that straight now. Clearly. At this point especially with a new 5 yr deal just signed and his age( 62?) he's probably finishing up with uconn.

A new chapter for both parties, It was time to take a step forward. The program is in shambles. The current situation is not going to lend itself to someone learning on the job. A major criteria of the new coach has to be the ability to build a program from scratch.

Well I've been following the news like everyone else. A decision has finally been made. I want to thank Coach Thompson for his class in the way he represented the University. I'll admit I had to keep myself from tearing up when I read his thoughtful, grateful statement regarding his time here. Despite the weaknesses of his recent teams, he leaves the program better than he found it. And although I thought a change was necessary, it didn't mean that I wasn't always pulling for him to be successful. I hope if he wants to coach again he will have that opportunity.
Now that we have made this call, my hope is that we get the best candidate available. I want a pick that shows we are committed to rejuvenating the program and playing winning basketball. It's abundantly clear to me that many big coaches, including in our league currently, will have interest in this job. We should explore those options.
Patrick Ewing isn't that guy. He's an unproven risk we don't need to take. I feel slightly better about Amaker, but at this point I just want to see a thorough search for the best possible candidate. Everyone can see how big a story this opening is. I hope the administration does not waste this opportunity.

The outside of the box thinking is certainly intriguing here (Hurley Sr., Geno and Hammon).

I am certain the best days of Georgetown basketball are officially behind us now. 3/23/17 will always be a solemn day. RIP Hoyas.

Doc Walker on ESPN 980 raised the question of if JTIII went to the Administration for his release.
