Let me start by saying that next year I will be attending my 50th reunion. I've been a Hoya fan since Tom O'Keefe and Jack McGee. Though I live nearly 100 miles away I try to attend at least 5-6 home games a year. I'm a fan. But I'm also realistic. There is no way the Hoyas beat Nova this year. Have you seen Nova play? They have 4 guys on the floor at all times who can drive to the hoop, hit3's, grab rebounds and loose balls and also play phenomenal defense. We have maybe on guy who can do 3 of those things and no one who can do them all. Tomorrow night will be a clinic and will demonstrate how far we've fallen and how much the game has passed us by. I hate Nova more than anyone else on this board but damn Jay Wright has figured it out. He finds guys who maybe don't have the greatest resumes but who can handle the ball and shoot. He doesn't waste scholarships on big men who aren't athletic or guards who are timid. He loves those 6'5"-6'7" guys who can post smaller guards or drive by bigger forwards/centers. He loves guards who are smart and are true floor leaders. In short, he saw what Otto and Wallace did for us and decided to stock his team with similar players. Meanwhile JT3 seems to have either lost his way or his recruiting mojo. Sadly, other than LJ and maybe DSR there is no one on this Hoya team ( or on any of our last 3-4 year teams) that I will have fond memories of in 10 years. Yeah the Pryor dunk was amazing and Govan 3's are fun to watch but seriously. Lubick, Hopkins, Moses, Josh Smith, Reggie, Ike, Hayes, Campbell? Is Mosley going to be our next flop at point guard? I know you can't judge guys from their H.S. resumes but how does a guy who leads his team to a 32-0 record and a state championship become so weak and timid when he comes to us? Sure there has to be some freshman jitters but we are 3 months and 23 games into the season and he looks like someone who accidentally crashed a White House party. And where is the team "attitude"? These guys all look defeated before they take the floor. Okay, I'm done venting. But if we lose by least than 20 points tomorrow night I will be shocked. But like most of you I will be planted in front of the TV watching and hoping. So you think it will be like the Hoyas vs St. Joe's at the Palestra in 1966? Dear God what a horrible memory. If the game wasn't bad enough the weather was horrible. Fog so bad they closed the NJ turnpike. Got to the Palestra just in time to see Goukas hit a half court shot that put St Joes up by around 20. I believe they won by 30+. Plus had to spend the night at a flea bag hotel in Philly because roads were closed and among the 3 of us we didn't have enough money for a decent hotel. And yes, I think tomorrow night could be as bad.

Strongly disagree with the comments about Mosely. I think the kid is a rock who brings it every time he's on the floor. Is he as effective as we need him to be? No. Does his shooting need to improve? Yes. But he has the character this program needs. And as a freshman is performing better than most people on this board anticipated. I feel confident that he will improve and we will be happy he is a Hoya when all is said and done. And, yes, it's a good thing we are bringing in Tremont Waters as point. Mosely will be a good back up and defend. Just needed to get that out.
It seems to me that there is a way to beat Villanova. I have noticed their tendency to coast through games and turn on after the 7 minute mark at end of games. They usually manage to close out. But they let DePaul hang around and make it close. Marquette beat them that way. Not betting on a Hoyas win, but there is a good chance they will make it interesting.

I love the optimism - but when we can't beat a medic to Seton Hall at home, I can't picture us getting it done on the road against a national power. But maybe Tre scores 15, Reggie hits 3 bombs, B. goes for 10 and we shock ourselves!

On paper, this game should be a blowout. Villanova is probably the most well-rounded team in college basketball, They also probably have the best player in college basketball in Josh Hart. I'll take Hart over Ball, Mason, Monk, or any of the other stars this year any day. They're a veteran, disciplined, well coached team playing at a raucous Pavilion where they rarely ever lose. Philly fans know how to make noise, and they will be ready to see the Hoyas falter early under the immense pressure.
Something tells me we will stand tall in this game. Say what you will of JTIII's coaching ability, he has a penchant for drawing up a really good game plan in tough road environments. Of late he has done really well at the Carrier Dome. I think he will be ready and the team will be ready to go after a dispiriting home loss on Saturday. It's easily possible that we could play well and lose. But I'll call the upset--Georgetown 82, Villanova 76.

But like most of you I will be planted in front of the TV watching and hoping. I agree with you that we are likely to get crushed tomorrow night. That said, I disagree with "These guys all look defeated before they take the floor." During the Seton Hall game, I saw a team that was fighting and truly putting in effort to try to win the game. Now, that wasn't enough and we lost, which stinks. But, I don't think they're playing like they are defeated. And, given the circumstances (i.e., very little chance of post-season), I think that's actually a good thing. The team isn't giving up, even though they could if they wanted to. We have to accept this team for what it is - flawed. That doesn't mean we cannot win games, and it doesn't mean we cannot go on another winning streak, but the odds are definitely against that happening. If everything goes right for us - our top guys all shoot well, we don't foul too much, we don't turn it over, and we defend decently, and Villanova has a bad night, we could win. I don't expect that will happen, but hey, nobody expected the Patriots to win the Super Bowl toward the end of the game, either. On Mosely, I don't think he's a flop, or will be a flop as a point guard. With Waters coming in, I don't think Mosely will even get a chance to truly be this team's point guard, except as a backup. You need to rest this tired argument. I think the Dr. has the experience to know what he sees and to know when it doesn't look right. Listen to those who have seen it before and you might learn something.

But like most of you I will be planted in front of the TV watching and hoping. You have got me by 20 years but I share many of your views, particularly those concerning the recruiting. It is not that these kids are not talented but rather that they simply have not fitted together to form a cohesive unit. Too many one-dimensional players, too little compatibility on the floor. Tonight is the first Hoya game in the New Big East era that I will miss voluntarily. Too hard on the West Coast to get home in time for a 4:00 start, particularly when the team is as disappointing as they have been for several years. Used to have an expectation of what I would see from a Hoya basketball team. After many disappointments expectation was replaced by "hope." Sadly hoping for a quality performance is the new norm. So I will hope that when I turn on the monitor sometime in the late second half there will be a close game but I honestly do not anticipate that after the crushing loss on Saturday.

I'm certainly not optimistic about winning, but I do think we'll be in the game.
We've played a total of eight games against teams that are currently ranked in the top 25. We're 3-5 in those eight games. And the average point differential is less than two points per game.
