In the 1500m Ahmed Bile is still qualified but has not declared. Only 15 runners are qualified and declared.

The reason why Ahmed did not declare is Ahmed is actually moving to Qatar (he's trying to gain citizenship there so won't be competing at the USA Trials) and he'll train with his Dad and pursue a professional career in running.
Many runners that have Qatar citizenship are Kenyan-born, including the world record holder in the 3000m steeplechase. Ahmed's dad, Abdi, won the world championship in the 1500m in the past representing Somalia.

Just came back from day one of the trials and the Hoyas went one for two today. Joe White ran a great race putting himself in contention for the top three and fighting to the end to come in 2nd, 0.02 s behind first. His heat was slow so it was important for him to qualify automatically, which he did. Semis are tomorrow.
Monica Hargrove did not advance in the 400m.

HEAT 1 from letsrun.com
Only 7 started, as lane three was conspicuously empty, since defending Olympic Trials champion Nick Symmonds was a scratch. Because Symmonds chose to wait until yesterday to announce that his injury of the last few months would keep him out, it was too late to fill the field with another athlete.
Once the race began, Duane Solomon took the lead at 200 in 26.2, a mere half a step in front of Charles Jock. Approaching 400, Solomon extended his lead to a full stride, hitting one lap in 54.22, looking well within himself. Approaching 600, Joseph White moved up aggressively on the inside to pass Jock and move into second with Solomon still comfortably in front.
But the final 125 meters suddenly got VERY interesting. Solomon, a clear 5 meters in front, soon started to see his lead dwindle. Three guys all tightly bunched were coming and in the final 20 Solomon started to think about the next round and coast in instead of driving to the finish. After the race, Solomon said he wasn’t aware how fast the others were closing behind him. In the end, he was caught at the line by Drew Windle, who took first in 1:48.66, and two others – with White in second and Jock in third, with Jock and Solomon both crossing in 1:48.71.
Solomon would have to wait on the remaining heats to see if his time would advance and he was officially eliminated when Craig Engels finished 4th in heat #3.
Solomon didn’t realize the other guys behind him were closing past. “It’s a dumb mistake on my part. Very stupid to do it at the Trials.”
Solomon said afterwards that he was trying to conserve energy for the final but was caught by surprise how fast the other guys in his heat were closing. By the time he figured out, he had been passed and was in bad position and couldn’t make up the gap, falling an agonizing seven thousandths short of Charles Jock, the final auto qualifier. He accepted responsibility, calling it a dumb mistake — which it was for a guy who was fourth at the last Olympics and was running in his 12th U.S. outdoor championship.

Emily spent most of the early part (i.e., the first 15 laps) on the rail in 7th or 8th place. As the pace picked up a bit, the lead pack started dropping runners. With a mile to go there was a 3-women pack at the front. Then I knew, if Emily didn't do anything foolish, she would be on the team to Rio. With two laps to go it was a two women race - Molly Huddle (Notre Dame grad) and Emily. I really thought Emily had a chance to win, since Molly led the entire race, which takes a lot out of lead runners. But she did run away from Emily at the end. Since this was Emily's first race of the season, she was not race sharp. She is supposed to run the 5000m at the trials, she should develop race smartness for the Olympics.

Joe White was running well in the 800m semis, when he strained his stomach muscle. Coming up tomorrow is the men's steeple heats in which Darren Fahy will participate. On Thursd. the women's 1500m in which Rachel and Treniere will run. Plus Emily is going for her 2nd race, the 5000m.

Darren Fahy was running well in his heat in the steeplechase. With less than a lap to go he was solidly in 5th place (top five in each heat and the best four fastest times go to the finals). On the hurdle on the backstretch right in front of me he did the thing you most dread in the SC, i.e., trip over the hurdle. He was down long enough that not only did he not make the first five, but he had no chance of a time qualifier.

Nevada, thanks for your continual updates on Hoyas in track and field. Appreciated. Ed, you're welcome. Tomorrow Rachel Schneider runs the first round of the 1500m. Hoping that she makes thye semis. Also, Emily run the 5000m heats. The men have been plagued with bad luck. Emily did well in the 10000m and let's hope Rachel does well, as well as Emily in her 2nd event. I think she is running the 5000m to run into shape for the Olympics, as the heat tomorrow will be only her 2nd race of the season. Today was a day off except for the hammer throws, which were open free to the public. For anybody, who might be in Eugene on Friday, the GU club of Oregon has arranged a meet and greet at 6:30 pm. PM me for details.

Today was qualifying heats in the women's 1500m and 5000m. Emily Infeld qualified easily in the 5000m for the finals. Treniere Moser and Rachel Schneider were both in the 1500m heats. Unfortunately, Rachel fell with less than a lap to go. She did get up after several precious on the ground and in fact sprinted to beat the woman ahead of her. I had thought she didn't qualify, but her gutsy getting up and sprinting to the end led her to have the last spot in the semis based on time. After watching the replay of her heat, I think a point could be made to pass her on to the finals, because she was definitely interfered with. Treniere did not get an auto qualifier, but ended up making the final on time.

Not a terribly good day for the HOYAS. In the 1500m semis, first Treniere scratched out of her semi. Then Rachel was running 3rd or 4th. In the last lap Coach Smith said Rachel got anxious. She had been on the inside, then went to the outside and was losing momentum with all this motion. She came in 6th in her heat, top five go automatically, and her time was the 3rd fastest of the others and they only took two. As you can imagine she was disappointed, but I felt she was more disappointed in letting her family and friends down.
The meet and greet after the session was a little like GU track and field half of fame. John Trautmann, Pete Sherry, Sasha Spenser, Miles Irish, and Coach Smith with Coach Gags lurking.
Emily Infeld remains the last Hoya standing.

Last day of the trials. We set two attendance records for Hayward Field the last two days with a total of 176,000 for all eight days. As Dan mentioned Emily finished fourth after co-leading most of the race. I think Emily was more concerned with her teammate qualifying which she did, so mission accomplished.
Other points of interest on the last day: A very nice story in the local paper about ex-Hoya coach Gags (Frank Gagliano). Also, ran into Alan Webb, high school mile record holder, after Mass at the U of O Newman Center. Very nice guy; had his wife and baby with him. He went to South Lake HS, as he mentioned he was close to DC.

Emily could have gone to Rio in the 5k, too, after Molly Huddle decided to only do the 10k and Emily was bumped up into a place on the roster. However, she also elected to focus on the 10k and gave up her spot, so Abby D'Agostino, coached by Mark Coogan - father of the Hoyas' Katrina Coogan - will go in her stead.
