Current Freshman at GU. One of the main parts of the campus plan is the student life corridor along Tondorf. Now that Cooper Field is finished does anyone have any idea/estimation of when the work on that will start and a possible end date. That whole passage way is such an ugly mess a nice pedestrian corridor through the heart of campus is much needed. Probably not for awhile, unfortunately. The pandemic did quite a number on University finances, and the 'nice touch' finishes to that corridor presumably have to come last, after they've done whatever they plan to do with Harbin (e.g., moving facilities out and putting something more student-engaging in the ground floor of the 'Harbin Podium') and adding the new flex space building just south of Regents. On the plus side, with the construction of the new hospital pavilion going on full throttle, the amount of traffic on Tondorf should be pretty limited. Certainly a lot better than when we had to dodge GUTS buses screaming up - or worse, down - the hill!

In just the last few weeks, the area on the East side of Cooper Field has gotten a bit nicer, with a wide paved sidewalk on the west side of Tondorf Road (for the first time in at least 20 years).
So there’s at least now a path to walk from the SWQ up to Regents without navigating the uneven sidewalk outside The facilities offices at Harbin. With the new landscaping in that corner, it also looks nicer than it has at any point since they took out the baseball field. And with more green space, too. (Though the unlandscaoed eastern end of that will be where that multi-use building is set to go).
Word is that they’ll be redoing the field at Cooper Field soon, (maybe as soon as Lax season ends?) and it will extend all the way to the eastern fence.

Now the children try to find it, And they can't believe their eyes... Yes, there used to be a ballpark right here."

I long for the days you could watch a game from the grassy hill which is now the Leavey Center. ☹️

Word is that they’ll be redoing the field at Cooper Field soon, (maybe as soon as Lax season ends?) and it will extend all the way to the eastern fence. Ah, nice to hear. Does seem to lend credence to the idea that it's gonna be awhile before anything more permanent happens with that corridor - installing a sidewalk is not trivial, but it's not especially resource-intensive in the grand scheme of things. Removing the east-side stands and extending the field all the way to the fence-line was the plan all along, as it would give the soccer teams a wider playing surface on which to make their home for however-long it takes until the "Yates-Shaw Castle Maneuver" can be completed. But truthfully, at this point, the absolute earliest I could envision construction beginning on New Yates is like 5 years from now. No inside info, just a hunch. Maybe I'm wrong, and we have donor support waiting in the wings to rapidly kickstart that into high gear... but I doubt it. Regardless, I suppose I should mention that the construction project currently occupying the north end of campus is truly massive. Two cranes, an on-site concrete plant... you spend enough time looking at it, and you can see where the astronomical pricetag ($800 million-ish projected) comes from. In the time of Covid, though, heavy investment in medicine is not going to be met with the same level of skepticism that it might once have... especially since the financial risk largely now falls on MedStar, rather than the University. Probably the most transformative project since the Southwest Quad... if not the Leavey Center.

What and where is this new “multi use building” that is being spoken of? and I hope they tidy up the corridor next to cooper soon (probably not as mentioned because beautification like that usually comes later) as the construction was annoying in such a main vein at the school
