Amen. What a disgrace! I couldn't believe it. Someone in the WAPOsports department is seriously Terpentined. This article on the Terps' coaching staff film prep has about as many words in total as some entire season coverage of the Hoyas by the WPost. And it is only Part Two of a season long Maryland's March series, so not only was there a huge writeup before this one (just a few weeks ago) , there are going to be plenty more to come during the season. And that doesn't include the mostly page one of the sports section pre-game stories and post-game articles provided to the Terps for every game or the multiple columns that will be written about the team throughout the year. I pretty much stopped posting about this media coverage issue since many people thought I was making a big deal about something we had no control over. But it is a big deal. People don't grasp that even if folks don't read the newspaper much major articles like these are carried on the internet for anyone to find, including on Facebook and on twitter. Meanwhile those five paragraph Gene Wang stories for the Hoyas are much harder to locate because they are typically limited to the WPost website. Publicity is always good and the Hoyas get none of it. The Post did nothing for the renewal of the Gtown-Cuse series. All there was was a tiny writeup that was hidden away somewhere in the middle of the Post's sports section and the newspaper did the same for the post game article. Obviously the game wasn't deemed worthy of a columnist either. Meanwhile even George Washington got a sizable front page sports section article in the pre-game coverage of its contest versus Virginia. Georgetown hasn't gotten anything like that (it had to share an article with Maryland leading up to the Terps game rather than getting a separate one of its own). |
