if hayes played more in the duke game hoyas win. it is just that simple,he can score on the inside and rebound. govan should have been on the bench the last 5-6 mins against duke. if hayes played more hoyas win. that is just flat out stupid,by jt3. he is clueless. he needs to to go back to coaching school.we are again playing the wrong people at the wrong times.

Not that anyone should even entertain your foolishness, but Govan has range out to the 3 point line, an incredibly soft touch around the rim and is absolutely money from the FT line. I want that guy in the game at the end. Hayes is a big body, he can rebound, and he's shown that he has some offensive game but he occasionally struggles from the FT line, and doesn't have nearly the range of Govan. He's a useful player for us but come on now!

Govan and Mourning were playing better than him.

Just when you think you know the answers, Hoyatalk doesn't change the questions.

Right now, Hayes' offensive efficiency is 93.2, he has used 29.4% of possessions, and his turnover rate is 27. So in other words, statistically he's not much different than Hopkins on offense, meanwhile he doesn't have nearly the defensive ability.
That said those stats are based on a small sample of stats. Clearly, Hayes can finish much better than Hopkins, but his defense isn't as good. I do think he will be helpful, but in a game that played fairly fast against a team with no real post threats, it made sense not to play him.

If not for him we would have blown out Duke. You clearly know basketball. An uneducated genius. To heaven with you.

It's not the worst question in the world. I wouldn't be so ... certain ... about it, but Hayes is the only guy on our team who has gathered defensive rebounds, which would have been nice. Yes, he can be a bit slow on D but his low post play gives an interesting dynamic and maybe he grabs a few of those rebounds that ended up in Amile Jefferson's hands?

I'm just kinda glad we have a coach who thinks "who's playing better today" than "it's the last few minutes, who had a good game 2 games ago?"

I thought once we want zone on D you would have seen him a bit. But my strong suspicion is that when we are facing an aggressive point zone like that he is going to go with more of a shooting and mobile lineup.

That game in particular it was because we had to rotate with him that Duke was getting those open 3's. He just cant get out to the corner in the match-up zone. Which i agree was the right way to play Duke. They were too quick on the perimeter to go man up for long stretches.

Yep, there are going to be some nights where the matchups are very favorable for Hayes. I'm happy he's playing well this year. But sometimes, it's going to be a better matchup with other guys. I hope this inspires Brad to work on some of those things, so that the coach's decision is even tougher. I am happy to have a guy like Govan in there at the end because of his good free throw form, though.

I hope this inspires Brad to work on some of those things, so that the coach's decision is even tougher. I am happy to have a guy like Govan in there at the end because of his good free throw form, though. During one of his preseason interviews, JT3 said that this team had the depth to allow him to play matchups. Another aspect is that Hayes and Govan picked up two fouls each in thenfirst half. JT3's hand was forced and he had to use Trey. After 0 minutes vs Radford, 4 vs Maryland, and 3 vs Wisconsin, he got 14 quality minutes vs Duke. This is the type of scenario that happens in March where our team gets into foul trouble and different players are forced into situations they have not been put in during the season, and then have to react with the season on the line. I'm glad it is happening in November and we're seeing good alternatives. I hope JT3 uses all of his available players through the season, so we're ready for anything in March.
