I mean how long could it possibly take to put together some renderings for a 5k stadium? The tone of the initial release strongly suggested that project would have an aggressive timeline and the cash was finally on hand. There was no need to cite a projected 12-18 month timeline after a decade stall but they did....and then crickets, not even renderings, for the next 4 months? The more things change....

Is there any update on the new football stadium? I assume we are looking at the 2017 season as the completion time. It might be tough to perform these renovations as Cooper Field is used year round for athletics and student activity. How old is the artificial turf surface? Will that need to be replaced as the life of a turf field is only 8-10 years. Having looked at old plans for the stadium, I'm excited to see what they can construct. By the way, what is the completion goal for the Thompson Center?

Zero updates since initial statement 5 months ago. Nobody has a clue what the stadium will look like, how many it will hold, or when it will be built.
In other words, more of the same silence on a small high school-sized stadium that is going to take longer to build than the pyramids at Giza from inception to completion.

Hearing rumors that only 10 million allocated to the stadium with a 30% overhead to the university. Thus a budget of only 7 million or so. Very important that the community tries to stay engaged or the end results could be very disappointing.

Where did you hear that and how can "WE" engage....sounds like MSF.v2!!!!!
I can only hope that the Cooper family goes balistic if their intent and $$$ are jerked around!

I don't care about Georgetown football, but this change could make me rethink any and all giving to Georgetown. It reinforces that Georgetown doesn't want help from donors for anything other than the university's next immediate need. My law school does a great job fundraising and has amazing faculty and facilities. It's funny how happy donors yields better results than unhappy donors.

Very important that the community tries to stay engaged or the end results could be very disappointing. Oh boy, rumors! There is a critical missing variable here, which is: how many additional funds dedicated toward the MSF (whether from the original fundraising drive or other sources) are being combined with whatever sum the Coopers have provided? $100k? $1 million? $2.5 million? $5 million? The answer is significant, I'd say...

Do we know if the gift from the Coopers contained any conditions on how much was to be allocated to the MSF and what percentage went elsewhere? I'd think that would be important to know before we jump to conclusions.

Was on campus last weekend and it does not look like anything has been down at the field. Are there are plans that have been made public yet? You would think they would have the design completed by now if they intend to have this project completed before the football season starts. The Thompson Center seems to be coming along really well for what that is worth and I would think that would be completed this fall.

You can't really do any construction while the field is being used for lacrosse.

In addition to the ongoing sports seasons, there has also been a lot of sensitivity (particularly on the part of current students) as to the sheer amount of construction going on on campus, and how much it disrupts everyday life. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Northeast Triangle construction (which makes Leavey inaccessible through the main entrance, and essentially cuts the campus in half, east of Leavey Center. - The residence hall in the former Jesuit residence buildings, which blocked much of Library Walk for a year, give or take. - The Thompson Athletic Center, and its impact on the SW part of campus (including the changes to GUTS bus stops and taking up a few lanes of the Canal Road entrance and West Road). - Various smaller projects, like phased rehabbing of parts of Dahlgren Quad.
This is not to excuse the lack of public plans for Cooper Field at this point. But it shows that there would be a lot of pushback if GU were to start on construction right away.

Recently I heard they were going to begin some construction this summer by moving home and away seating to the present visitors side. This will make it possible to begin construction on the home side with locker rooms, seating, etc. This will make seating for this season a premium, especially games like Princeton that bring a fan and alumni base. I don't know the dollars allocated to this beginning project, but it has to start sometime. Realistically, I think you are looking at a two year project, possibly new stadium by '18 season. I hope they add new synthetic turf, in my opinion the present turf seems worn being used as much as it is. Thanks again to the Cooper family who is making even small improvement possible. Go Hoyas!

I'm surprised that Parents of Players didn't STRONGLY request an update on the plan, progress & timeline at the recent Awards Dinner?

Very unlikely for any or all the things you suggest. 1. A design has not been finalized, and yes, none of the designs from 10-15 years ago are likely in play. Either way, local approvals must take place, so no design, no construction. 2. It's unlikely the Cooper gift was paid in full last fall--a gift of that size likely has some longer tern payout. No evidence either way, but it's likely the facility portion of that gift has its own timeline. 3. The Thompson IAC is priority one until September and the same people working on it internally would also be expected to work on this effort. I don't see any serious look at the field until then, at the earliest. 4. To the point below about why parents wouldn't call this out, well, they certainly didn't call it out in the last 10 years. And it's not like the scholarship discussion got called out by parents, either. If you really want to escalate this project, Georgetown needs to consider a total field shutdown. Play a couple home games in Sept. 17 (or '18, or 19), and go on the road as a barnstorming team like Princeton did when Palmer Stadium was torn down to give construction a full 10 months to dig, build, and prepare for a fall launch. Move lacrosse to Shaw Field in the spring (much like soccer will have to move if and when that field becomes the new rec center). A partial, nights-and-weekends approach won't work, as Metro has learned. Maybe it would look something like this:

"....and the existing Multi-Sport Field will be renamed Cooper Field when it is completed in an estimated 12 to 18 months."
So excited. The stadium is going to be ready in 6-12 months from now! Right? I mean that was in the official University release. Can't wait to see it. They have been doing a great job of keeping this dead quiet and keeping this off anyone's radar including on the official GUHoyas website.

Good news, all! Yesterday night, a cargo plane of unknown origin and registration landed at IAD carrying a cargo of Euros, Swiss francs, and Kiwi Dollars. The funds were immediately transferred to the vault of the Corporation of Catholic Gentlemen, which lies in the tunnels running from Gaston Hall to the Opus Dei stronghold at 15th & K. Lo and behold, the wheels of progress have been greased at long last:

I love the new front page DFW. In Above the Fold it looks like you have a link about Cooper Field in 2018 but link just takes me to Nov 2015 Third Rail piece?
