Zack Norvell, Simeon, Mac Irvin Fire, Illini The state’s top 2016 wing prospect and current top overall player in his class Simeon’s Zack Norvell has been relatively quiet on the recruiting trail over the last few weeks. PrepHoopsIllinois spoke with the Novell on Monday and he told us that he knows he will take official visits to both Gonzaga and Oregon, but does not have dates set for those officials yet. He says other schools that remain in the mix for the final three official visits are Georgetown, Missouri, Georgia, Florida State, Wake Forest, Illinois, Butler, and DePaul. When asked what is the timetable for when he would like to make a decision Norvell told us sometime in November or December. The first signing period is mid-November. The high scoring lefty wing broke out on the circuit showing more consistency throughout the spring and summer with the Mac Irvin Fire. He is one of the few remaining high-major prospects on the board in the state’s 2016 class. www.prephoopsillinois.com/news_article/show/549173?referrer_id=1201274

This weekend, the talented Chicago guard and his family will make an official visit to Spokane, which will play a key role in growing the relationship between Norvell and Gonzaga. "I want to see if I feel comfortable," he explained. "I want to see if it feels like home and see how the players interact and what the facilities are like. I also want to get a feel for what the regular day on campus is like at Gonzaga. Also, the fan base is important and I want to see how they embrace players. How are the fans after the good games, and also the bad games? Also, how does my family feel about it and do they feel comfortable?" Along with Gonzaga, the combo guard has a couple of other schools that he is thinking will get visits, although no dates have been set. "I wouldn't say too many schools are standing out too much. Gonzaga has been recruiting me hard and really building the relationship. I know I am going to take a visit to Oregon and probably a visit to Georgetown." If all goes well, it won't be too long before Norvell makes his decision on where to continue his career. "I want to do in November so that I can be able to focus on my season," the Chicago guard revealed. "I don't think I want to wait until during the season." www.slipperstillfits.com/2015/9/11/9311119/zach-norvell-set-to-take-official-visit-to-gonzaga

Wow the staff has done a great job of building a relationships with all of these different prospects. If we don't get another guard in this class, it won't be because the staff didn't go hard after these kids. With Mosely already in the fold and because were heavily involved with Curtis Jones, 7th Woods, Bruce Brown and Zach Norvell, we have a really good shot to lock down a very good backcourt in this recruiting class.

Kudos to the staff, they could not be working harder to build the Hoya brand. Now we just need to land a couple of these studs.

I think the biggest difference from this past summer to the previous summer is not the effort of the staff, but picking more realistic targets. I think we have a realistic shot with any of these four top 100 guards, whereas last year the staff was spending a lot of time on kids who were a longshot at best. Kudos to the staff for identifying talented kids at a position of need, and where there is legitimate mutual interest.

Hard for me to get too happy over this news especially when I take into account that Norvell has been talking up visiting since June.. He was in town for this year's Oladipo camp as well and didn't stop by at all.. I think he'd be a good fit at G'town but I also think G'town is a fall back school for him..

Norvell wasn't allowed to meet with the staff on campus after the Oladipo camp because it was in July during a live viewing period. I have no idea if Norvell went to visit the campus on his own but he couldn't meet with the coaches during that time per NCAA rules. We also didn't officially offer him until late in July after his monster 53 pt game. So you can't hold him not visiting during or after the Oladipo camp against him.

I'm not sure you're right about this H4ever.. Kids can visit a school and speak with coaches as long as it's done on campus during live periods.. Either way I'm still not convinced that G'town is a high priority to Norvell..

Yes during an evaluation period! We just entered an evaluation period on Wednesday. That's why the coaches are everywhere meeting with prospects like Norvell, Jones, Keita and Brown. An exception to that rule is during July's Certified Event period where "All communication is prohibited during a certified event". Lawson/Oladipo All American Camp was one of the several events that kicked off the 2nd session of the July certified events period, meaning right after that event players and college coaches migrated to the next event/ tournament. No coaches are on campus long enough during this period to host high school recruits. They are bouncing from one event to the next. The only exception you might see is maybe a high profiled college transfer or 5th year immediately eligible free agent. No D1 colleges host high school recruits officially or unofficially during the July certified events period. Trust me when I say this, I'm talking from experience! NCAA RECRUITING CALENDAR CHART

A kid whose guardian didn't even hide the fact he wanted to get paid? What about Bacon, Rabb, and Dorsey? I'm not saying we stop recruiting top 50 talent; it's just that we should target top 50 talent that's realistically interested in the type of school and program we have at G'town.

He could have visited but I'm not sure if it's him not being interested in us or Gtown not pushing hard for the visit. He seemed to be listing Gtown for a long time without an offer and had mentioned wanting to visit in the past but either way it's not really that significant at this point.
He might go out west and feel comfortable or he might want to find somewhere closer to home where his folks will have an opportunity to see him play every once in a while.
