Very good to read, he's been getting a lot of good pub on his play so far this spring.. There are a good number of players along his level in the 2016 class.. I think it was Borzello who tweeted how stacked this class is for lead guards..

If the class of '16 is stacked for lead guards, I certainly hope we can convince one to come our way.

Rarely seen a list that screamed "Not Hoya Material" quite like that. Only thing that could make it worse is subbing Indiana for Illinois. buh bye

Considering we only offered him a few days ago and he was apparently just about ready to trim his list, no surprise here right? Seems like we're trying to throw our hat in the ring at the very last minute with a lot of guys. Doesn't feel good.

I bet you if Duke or Kentucky threw their hat in the ring at the last minute he'd listen. This staff has to find a way to rid this perception about the offense and make this program appear more guard friendly.

Yes, but more importantly they have to do a better job of identifying guards they have a good chance with and focusing on them. IMO, find guards in the 75-150 range who aren't being recruited by the big boys now, but have upside and room to grow. Example: Tre. In that vein, I really like Jackson...the results might not be there, but he has a ton of talent, athleticism, size, and upside. I wish they'd offer him now.

Get LJ Peak to the league as a 2G would solve that problem.. Guys want to go where they have seen similar players have success. That’s why we have no problems recruiting positions 3-5

This past year, we had a guard who was pre-season BE POY and ended up 1st team All BE. OK, he's not an NBA prospect, but he showed a guard can lead the GU Offense.

Russ Smith. And he spent most of the year in the D League. Yet, Louisville lands guards left and right. In the past 10 years, Michigan State has put 1 guard in the league. It's silly that we have the trouble we have had.

It's not just the perception, most of these point guards are used to being ball dominant guards and with this offense that's not the case. Even slow down teams like Wisconsin and UVA rely on their point guards to create a fair amount of their offense and the perception is that at Georgetown the post is just as likely or more in some cases to get the assist than the guard.

We don't really seem to have an issue recruiting Top 50-125 guards. And we don't really recruit very many Top 25 or Top 50 forwards and centers, either. I know we aren't a destination for a ball control PG, but it's worth noting that LJ Peak was roughly the same rank as Jessie Govan. And that we have two freshmen guards who look like they are going to be getting big minutes for a while.
We definitely do better with 2 guards. But over the years, our Top 100 guards have included:
Just outside Top 100 - Campbell, Trawick, Whittington (ended up play Guard), Johnson, maybe Rivers? 50-100 - Starks, Clark, Sapp, Peak 25-50 - Wright, DSR Top 25 - Freeman
In the same time frame, forwards and centers (Top 3 spots):
Just outside Top 100 - 50-100 - Sims, Hopkins, Adams, White, Govan, Derrickson, Thompson, Cameron 25-50 - Porter, Lubick, Summers, Copeland Top 25 - Macklin, Monroe
Once you account for the 3:2 starting spots, I would say that we do recruit F and Gs slightly better, but the difference isn't nearly as big as people think -- basically, we tend to get Top 100 F/Cs and those same guys tend to be a little lower rated at G.
We rarely get the top guys period, and when we do, they are generally unique individuals. We don't tend to get the top F/Cs, either.

It's silly that we have the trouble we have had. MSU isn’t a destination for High level guards. They might get some top notch local players but for the most part they develop their talent. Louisville after this year will have 4 guards drafted but Pitino’s record on producing NBA players is meh. Mostly his success has to do with a rabid fanbase, an exciting style of play, and having a HOF coach on the sidelines
