Well, this is a big surprise, especially with the declaration in the GU press release that DSR will be signing with an agent.
That being said (or typed, in this case), this is what happens now in college basketball. Hopefully, DSR makes this decision with his eyes wide open in terms of where he will be playing basketball next season; it's one thing to play professional basketball in the NBA, another to play professional basketball in Europe, and a third to play in the NBA D-League. I would hate to see DSR playing in the D-League in lieu of a senior season at GU, because it's not the big money that one would look to earn if leaving school early to play basketball.
I wish him well, and maybe I'm a little too stunned to be thinking clearly, but I didn't see DSR as a slam-dunk NBAer, and that's why I'm puzzled by the decision.

Selfishly, I was hoping he wouldn't, but I always thought there was a very good chance that he would go. He's as ready as he is going to be to play professionally (not the NBA, but that was never going to happen). He's got a limited window of a few years to make good money playing overseas. Can't blame him for not wasting one. Wish him well...

Yo, rock, what were you saying about ball handling and not being worried?

Well, this ends the Austin Freeman versus DSR debate. And if you asked me 10 minutes ago, I would have said DSR 100%.

I am extremely surprised.
I have no problem whatsoever with someone making a decision that is best for him and his family in either the short term or the long term. My own enjoyment of the team obviously doesn't trump an individual's decision-making.
So, if this is a "I'd really like to start making some money playing basketball" decision, well, I suppose I can't argue.
But if DSR really thinks this is his best route to the NBA, I think he's very mistaken. History shows that the best way to make an NBA team is to be drafted into the NBA. Once you're in the D League, or you're in Europe, it's very hard to get noticed, and you have to get lucky. He seems, almost certainly, to not be drafted this year. I could understand it a bit if he concluded that he wasn't going to improve his stock by sticking around another year, or wasn't going to improve generally, but I think that's also not true. He showed this year he could play the point, but surely scouts would like to see him run the show for an elite team. And I think he's improved overall each year he's played.
I suppose it's possible (though I doubt it) that he's concluded he won't be an NBA player under any circumstance, so best to head to Europe now and get an extra year of earning in.

I would suppose he thinks this is the best route to make money playing basketball. Cant really begrudge that.

No reason to panic -- at least just yet.
There are very good fifth year senior transfers out there. There are guys from Drexel and Cleveland State that are transferring and 30+ minutes at SG for a top Big East program is a step up. We now have big minutes to offer these guys. A setback but not a disaster, if we can bring in a top transfer.

Per press release from Mex Carey. Signing with agent and going pro.
Good thing we landed all those guards.

Well, nothing but good luck to DSR. He was a great player while he was here. I appreciated all the hard work he put in to become a better player each season and he was a joy to watch for his 3 years here.
I would never tell a kid to stay in school if he could make good money doing what he loved professionally. For his sake, I am hoping he finds his way to a solid Euro club or somehow gets onto an NBA roster.
The D-league is crap for a kid with the obvious talent to accomplish so much more, like graduate from Georgetown. Hopefully the d-league is not an option for him or I would be disappointed for him.

Can't blame him for not wasting one. Wish him well... I love DSR as a "college" player and of course wish him the best but this decision is very shortsighted if you ask me. 1. He will not go in the first round and hence no guaranteed contract. 2. Yes he will probably play in Europe and granted every players window is limited but for his future and his future out of basketball i would think a degree from gtown and sacrificing one year of ball in europe is a better life choice. 3. I know this is a big maybe but this team could be special next year, make a deep run, and therefore give him a lot of media exposure as the absolute leader of this team. Sorry i just think this is a poor decision and then selfishly think its horrible for this team. Thats a big IF

This sucks! I hope he explains the move one day. Wish him the best!
This is another learning experience recruiting-/roster-/balance-wise for JT3, who always seems to lose his best player just when "next year" looks like the best yet.
Smith becomes priority #1!

Wish him luck, but I don't think this is going to have a "happy" ending. I hope the extra year in Europe is worth skipping his Senior year at Gtown.

With only 1 year left, I have no doubt he will graduate from Georgetown, much like Jeff Green did. Unfortunately, most high level players look at playing professionally since they were at their first travel camp in middle school.
I guess it was too much for us to all assume DSR would always be a 4 year player.

Good luck to him. As others have said, he was never going to play his way into the NBA next year at Georgetown. Now he can devote 100% of his time to basketball and get ready to make some money in Europe.

Yo, rock, what were you saying about ball handling and not being worried? It's clearly now a different situation, but you can continue being a child about it if that's what gets you through the day.
