Apologies if posted elsewhere but why doesn't Fox Sports have highlight packages online for our games? At best, it seems sporadic. Aside from a 1:30 DSR-only highlight posted at Casual, can't find anything else online ... is it really that hard for some intern at FS to throw together 2 mins of highlights?

BET coverage has been just awesome. The promos, the tracking shots, the close-ups. They need to pick at least one night a week during conference season to give it the same treatment though. None of this two-camera stuff.

Definitely been a step up from the regular season. Definitely agree with the sentiment that more of this level of coverage is needed during the season.
A buddy of mine who is a Duke fan just sent me a text stating how impressed he was with the production values. People are noticing.

Remember that--love it or hate it--Fox Sports revolutionized the way baseball in particular was broadcast when it started using those intense close-ups on guys like Pedro, etc. out there. I hoped and expected we would see more innovation with the BE. I don't think we have seen that until now though.mi do wish we could have returned the favor by giving FS1 the Gtown-Nova final it will want basically every year.

15K in attendance for last nights game Crowd last night for Nova v PC was absolutely electric. Cleared out quite a bit for 2nd game but still a great night for BE from that perspective.

Finally home and watching the games on TV. The production values on FS1 really are outstanding. I believe I read they got a lot of new equipment, new production trucks, etc. This year's Big East Tournament is probably the roll out of all of that as they are going to be doing a lot more live major events soon, like the US Open and the World Cup. This stuff does look very major league.

Some encouraging tweets from Lee Reed about meetings yesterday with FS1 about how to improve the BE partnership:

Competing against ESPN was always going to be a tough battle that will take a number of years to make significant inroads. Fox realizes that on a number of levels, not just BE hoops. I have faith that in 3 more years this will be a much different conversation.

I think Fox was the only major network who even talked to the new BE, so we got mid-major treatment. That's life.

I think Fox was the only major network who even talked to the new BE, so we got mid-major treatment. That's life. This makes absolutely no sense. First of all, name the mid-major league that provides $3 million dollars to each of the conference members? I recall when the Big East was breaking up that DFW put something on the main page about the pitiful contract the A-10 has which isn't even close to the agreement we have. My own feeling is that we should be HUGELY thankful to Fox Sports. The launch of Fox Sports 1 is basically the only reason the Big East survived. Do you seriously think anybody else would have given us that kind of money? For a fledgling league with many members that, to that point, hadn't exactly been powerhouses? ESPN had absolutely no interest in the Big East (and if we had defaulted to ESPN, they would not have given us nearly the same amount of money, and I highly doubt many of our games would be on TV at all). Fox Sports did, and they were willing to pay up. What's wrong about that? Listen, I understand that the exposure on Fox Sports 1 is not great compared to ESPN since ESPN has a lot more viewers. There are downsides to that, for sure, but it beats truly being like the AAC or the A-10 where very few of the games are on TV and even less people care about them. Fox Sports 1 has been instrumental to the Big East's survival. For that, I am grateful and thankful, and I trust they have our interests in their minds because quite frankly, the Big East succeeded equals Fox Sports 1 succeeding and vice-versa.

Fox was only buying broadcast content. CBS and ESPN has most of the college BB content. Fox also owns 49% of The BIG and PAC 12 networks.

- Fox Sports 1 is a new sports network.
- Being on FS1 is not as good as being on ESPN - today
- But ESPN wasn't offering a deal and they have too many deals with too many conferences as it is - there is no room on ESPN for BE hoops.
- FS1, being a new network and new to college basketball, is just building its roster of producers, directors, technicians and on-air talent.
- FS1 did give the BE a better deal than anyone else was offering.
- FS1 did so because they absolutely need content. How else will they ever build their network?
- Fox News started decades after CNN, who was in a dominant position of leadership at that time.
- Today, Fox News (leave aside the issues of journalistic integrity and whether or not you like them) has vastly higher ratings than CNN. True, they can't sign exclusive agreements to cover news as the sports networks can with conferences. The key take away for me is Fox takes a long term view of things, see tremendous potential in Sports TV, and will be investing to build their capabilities and to promote their sports conferences and other properties for years. They've made a commitment and intend to succeed.
- Our situation with FS1 today has similarities to the BE's early days with ESPN. Both were building. OF course, there was not anywhere near as much competition then as there is today in terms of TV sports coverage. ESPN essentially built it from scratch. Today they dominate. The BE benefited by working with them.
The Big East has a better opportunity to rebuild its basketball rep and following today thanks in part to FS1, their $ and their on-air promotions - across their TV platforms. The supposed weakness of the BE - no FBS Football $$, can also be a strength - concentrate one our #1 sport and build on that. GU is getting stronger, new IAC, better recruiting, really everything but recent NCAA success. Yes, we all know NCAA results are crucial, but we aren't building from nothing. We have a very strong history and base. SJU getting Mullin and his two recruiting assistants and apparently major $$ support from the admin to promote basketball is huge for the BE. Cooley is doing well at PC and just got BE POY back for another season. Wojo has gotten off to a hot start at Marquette. Jay W and Nova are a strong, national program, Butler just signed their promising young coach to a long term deal. Creighton is getting some good kids and has a HUGE following at home. Xavier looks good. The BE had the 2nd or 3rd best RPI in the country last season. GU has a very challenging SOS again -- we will get solid coverage because of that. Really, there are so many positives for the re-building BE today. And many for GU too. We and the BE are in great shape. As great as the "old BE"? Guess what, the old BE doesn't exist anymore. Comparing our current situation to something that no longer exists is pointless. We don't have FBS football. That is a fact. We don't get FBS money. But we can still field highly competitive teams every year - and under JT3 we have. I am not going to moan about what we don't have. Why not celebrate what we do have -- a team that has outperformed 95% of D1 basketball programs over the past 11 years and looks like it has every chance to continue doing so as far into the future as we are able to see. This is a GREAT Time to be a HOYA Fan!

For those of us located outside of the Big East footprint, the arrival of FSN has been a godsend. Yes, we have suffered through extended coverage of practice day NASCAR telecasts while missing the first part of games. No, the announcers have not all been great and occasionally a replay results in missing a live shot of a FT or some other brief moment of interest. However, no longer must we risk viruses to try to watch Hoya broadcasts on unauthorized internet sites. Nor do we have to attempt to follow games through fan sites posting live updates. Overall, considering the damage done by the greed of the big football conferences to college basketball in general, and the Big East survivors in particular, things could be so much worse than the FSN shortcomings.
